Some amazing books that i reccomend are both music books. Rip It Up and Start Again about the post punk scene in the 70's and 80's is fantasic insitful and will intoduce anyone who reads to some magical, scairy and fucking awesome music.
Please Kill Me, about the american punk scene is pretty good too. Some disturbing accounts, and some insite into a music scene that changed everything. From the velvet underground, to the Stooges through to Television and The Ramones.
