Formed in 2001 by lead guitarist Kwenji "JUICE" Jackson and lead vocalist Khari Gzifa, THE INSURRECTION was joined by Garry "G-$" "Whiteboy" Imes on the bass 6 months later, then big CHAD-AKA Chadeus-AKA-Dick Nutwell (local porn star)and fam DEBO WAYNE, the MC. Unfortunately, Chad tragically passed away leaving a hole in the band and hearts of everyone who was blessed to know him. Right after his untimely death, our drummer at the time quit to join a cover band. Go figure. Some of our homies from a band called THROUGH EXILE kept us together by lending us their drummer Tim Mansfield. Tim eventually joined the band permanently and brought in one of the illest metal frontmen, Bobby Da Brains to rock with us as well. Bobby married G-$s sister Ami Imes and is now part of the family. DEBO WAYNE, who was Chads best friend in life and also an accomplished MC on his own, joined permanently as well. Now, "THE INSURRECTION" is called "BOMBAYE", pronounced "BOOM - BAH - YAY" as in "Ali, Bombaye!" Its an African word translated to mean "Kill em!" or "Fk em up!" LOL! Since we are a new unit, with a new sound and mission, we figured a name change was appropriate.We are a hip-hop rooted, hard rock band from the Southern Maryland / Metro DC Area. Without a doubt our biggest show to date was when we opened for Wyclef Jean and Soul Asylum at 2003 Live on Penn festival in front of the Capitol building. Weve rocked DC9, Grog & Tankard, Velvet Lounge, Nations, Toca Lounge, The Vault, former State of the Union club, The US MALL on the 4th of July, 2007, The Monkey Barrel, Club U, U turn, and many other spots around the Nations Capital.Were currently constructing new trax for our third CD... Its shaping up to be some hard hitting distorted, socially relevant material, sure to make you rock out...but also contemplate your current mindset and existence. Weve been at this for a minute, and remain true to having fun and rocking with pure energy that is rarely seen live. Rock with us!!!! Its not a question, its a mandate. GET AT US!!!! How?
