Sounds Like: FromVampire Magazine (www.vampire-magazine.com)I was quite surprised by this release to be honoust. Usually I don't like the German blackmetal that much but Winterthrone managed to impress me with this EP. Actually these songs are taken from the in 2002 released demo called "The burning skies" but Nordstorm Productions saw the potential and decided to press two songs and intro on nostalgic vinyl. This hellish vinyl is released in a good looking glossy cover and a handnumbered limitation of 300 copies. Nordstorm Productions really made a good job out of this release, especially when having in mind this is only their first release so far. Now about the music itself. The EP starts with an intro which is quite interesting. It brings me in a mood of old Roman rituals and sacrifices (as far as there ever have been Roman ritualistic sacrifices hehe). "Nails of ice" is a good symphonic blackmetal song with alot of orchestral parts and I don't mean like bands as Dimmu Borgir a.o. but more in the vein of older Limbonic Art and old Rotting Christ. This really sounds good. On side B we find "The last ones" which starts very slow with great synth parts and slow hypnotising drums but just when you get used to this and already got in a trance the blackmetal erupts like it came straight out of hell. Just like side A this is good symphonic blackmetal but I do have to say this sounds quit original and promising towards the future. This EP is really worth checking out but be quick because there are only 300 copies made. To me Winterthrone is THE best German blackmetal band as I know of. Just great!!!
