About Me

I've got two adorable, awesome, and talented boys that I'm lucky enough to call my family. My mom is amazing too... she's definitely goddess-material :o)
My Bobby is hotter than hell and Logan is too gorgeous for words!
Dev, don't worry you rock too!
I love my job as a professor at a top college because I can be an educator-feminist-activist. I'm smart enough to know that I can teach well and the odds of positive transformation in this f-ed-up world are immensely higher if I teach around 225 students each year than if I just tackled "world peace" (or some sort of 'sounds-like-Miss America-style" bullshit) solo!

I love my students and they keep me quite busy (sometimes that busyness can be better than at other times :o)! I love that I am in an environment where I am constantly reminded that education is life-long and that my students are always teaching me at least as much as I teach them!
From There to Here (wherever here is)...
Preface: I couldn't have done the following without the love and support of the most awesome and caring person in my world, Bobby!
I guess most sites want little blurbs and I swear that describing one's self within a (extremely!) finite character limit is totally impossible for all but a select & talented few....so here's an idea of who I am:
Preface: I couldn't have done it without the support of the Bobby! aka Logan's daddy :o)
I'm an academic feminist, I have incredibly diverse interests ... I like to think I can fix a toilet or go to Neiman's at the drop of a hat, I can analyze Foucault or better, I can do critical theory while shopping or being a handy-woman!
I'm the mom of a seven year old son, I'm super-lucky that I have the life I've had- pregnant at 19, which was my sophomore year, then stayed home for my 'would-have-been-junior-year' to be with my son and do the normatively defined 'right thing.' However, I was going nuts by 7 or so months of "staying at home." While I admire those moms who enjoy raising their kids and not working outside the home...it's just not for me...considering the manual-baby-labor 24/7 was what compelled me to get directly back to Drew (where I had started college right after high school).
There was a huge lack of parent-peers and/or seemingly accepting parents when I had my son, Logan, in 2000 (though I kept myself pretty isolated, so this observation is super-speculative based on my perception at the time), so as soon as I could register in March or April, there I was, back at Drew!
So after going from staying at home as a full time mom, what did I do?
...Declared my Women's Studies major and went straight through from my BA (w/ honors!) to my MA. My MA is in Women's and Gender Studies and focused in political economy.
I've been teaching college undergraduates for the past four and a half years and will keep doing so as long as I can afford to!!! Adjuncts are paid peanuts! I'm just grateful that I have options and my work as an activist is to make these options available to NOT JUST people like me...
