About Me

Ok, I have been a theatre and acting teacher for going on 24 years now. I grew up in the Washington DC area. I have a BFA in Theatre and a Masters in Directing. While I lived there I acted and directed at a lot of the local theatres: Little Theatre of Alexandria, Rockville Little Theatre, Source Theatre, Port City Playhouse, Greenbelt Arts Center, Silver Spring Stage, Trinity Theatre, Georgetown Workshop Theatre, Georgetown University and a lot more in the Richmond, VA during college.I taught for 6 years at High Point High School in Maryland having 6 State Award Winning Shows in a row. Two (Who Am I This Time? and Ordinary People) won Best Play in the state. Some of my former students there included Joey Sorge (Follies and Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway, Jimmy in the Mille tour and currently hysterical The Drowsy Chaperone), his wife Lori Alexander [they were Danny and Marty in my Grease] (Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway and The Producers tour), Terri Dixon (Smokey Joes Cafe on Broadway and co-starring in The Best Little Whorehouse Tour with Ann-Margaret), Mueen Ahmad (Bombay Dreams on Broadway) and perhaps more who have done stuff that I have never found out about.I was also Artistic Director of the Terabac Dinner Theatre at the University of Maryland. It was a great opportunity which ended with me playing Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady which is still the greatest role I have ever had.Other roles in the DC and VA area of note are award winning turns as BJ in "The 1940's Radio Hour" and Harold in "Black Comedy", Carleton in "Light Up the Sky", Durdles in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", Maurice in "A Murder Has Been Arranged" and Patrick Dennis in "Little Me".It was a time of a lot of theatre. One year between school and outside theatres I directed 9 shows. Too much. I decided to only direct at school and act. I found myself with acting in one show with two others in rehearsal.I moved to CA in 1990 with the plans of being a writer. I lived in Hollywood for 6 years and taught in Whittier. This was a step down artistically from my first school. During this time I was nominated for the Bravo award for Arts Educators. Living in Hollywood was an experience. One of my roommates from Maryland, Duane Adler went on the write the movie, "Save The Last Dance".A change came when I moved to The OC 10 years ago. I lived in Newport Beach for 9 years which was a wonderful place to call home. I got a job teaching at the Academy for the Performing Arts. Since there I directed a great variety of shows including Award Winning productions of "Antigone", "Crazy For You", "The Pirates of Penzance", "Rumors", "A Chorus Line", "The Elephant Man", "Baby With The Bathwater" and "Sordid Lives" among many more. While never pursuing directing I was offered the chance to direct the West Coast Premiere of "Stars In Your Eyes" for the Huntington Beach Playhouse" winning the award for Best Director of a Musical. After taking a ten year break from acting I decided to get my feet wet again playing Capt. Keller in "The Miracle Worker" for El Camino College and Jacob in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and Kolenkhov in "You Can't Take It With You" for APA. I starting pursuing it more actively and found myself quite busy for the last several years: Lt. Ward and Morganthau in "Annie" at the Saddleback Civic Light Opera, Gen. Bullmoose in "Li'l Abner", Lt. Brannigan in "Guys and Dolls", Senex in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", Layman in "Saving the World" at the Chance Theatre", Drake in "Annie" and Capt. Brackett in "South Pacific" at the Candlelight Pavillion, Pepe Hernandez "El Grande de Coca Cola" for the defunct West End Dinner Theatre and Mr. Bascombe in "Carousel", understudying Col. Pickering in "My Fair Lady", replacing Franz in "The Sound of Music" and finally Commander Harbison in "South Pacific" at the Curtain Call Dinner Theatre. While I have planned to stop acting I ended up with the chance to do one of my favorite shows, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" at Cypress College playing the Senator caught with his pants down during the raid.I have put acting on hold to settle into my new studio/loft in the Artist's Walk in Santa Ana. I bought this play over a year ago. I am pursuing photography much more actively shooting many models, actors and singers in the last year. I will open R Gallery and Studio sometime in 2006.While I moved to CA to focus on writing aside for being a published theatre and movie critic I have only found time for some school shows. I hope to get on and work on more screen plays.I hope to also open my own theatre company in the next year and also start private coaching. Photobucket Album
