"John is a unique character. He is unlike anyone most people meet. He doesn't conform to anything. He makes up his own mind. He loves his pets more than anything. He's incredibly kind-hearted and is the best friend anyone would want to have. He's the smartest person a lot of people know (although he's very modest and doesn't think he's that smart). He loves his home. He enjoys gardening and genealogy. He's currently writing his first book, even though he's never read a book from start to finish. He loves woodworking and his dream is to live on a farm, grow vegetables, have a vineyard, and make furniture. He comes across as shy when people first meet him. He's really interesting and very funny once he gets to know you. OH, and he plays the guitar, writes and produces his own music, and started playing the banjo a couple of years ago. He's also an artist - some friends still have some of his paintings. His family is incredibly lucky to have him in their lives." -- ALP
"Smart & creative, sweet & kind & thoughtful & poetic. He possesses all the knowledge of modern technology yet it seems as though he perceives things from another era." -- SJG
"John would make a good actor if he was mute." "It's like the normal John leaves his body and the weird John takes over. And then the normal John just goes with it..." -- CM
"I always think of John as prepared....i picture John as the guy with the bottomless backpack that has everything we possibly needed while we were up on a rock." -- LM
"John has a unique gift - he has the ability to make people comfortable around him - not everyone can do that." -- EJH

Run-in with Brandi Carlile

I just got home from downtown Austin.  My right hand still smells like that musky odor of a hand spending too much time on guitar strings.  Brandi Carlile's hands, that is. I ...

Fast, Day 9 + Guest Room Status

It's been a while since I've blogged about my fast.  A week, to be exact.  I've been a little lazier than last year in writing about it.  Mostly, I think, because even though I'm fastin...

Tooth Conspiracy

Why do we have to brush/clean our teeth, but our pets and other animals don't?  It's not fair!  Is it what we eat that requires the extra work on our part to clean up the mess we're leaving ...

40 Day/40 Night "Readjustment Experiment"

Has anyone seen that move, "40 Days and 40 Nights"? Some of you may know that, for lack of originality, in order to realign myself in this confusing single, habitual, and toxic world I'...

Hot Fun in the Wintertime

A few weeks ago I started receiving e-mails from Mazda about their all-new Mazdaspeed 3.  I thought, "boy that would be nice to have!"  It's my car, but hatchback (meaning room for the dogs!...

Fume Blanc

Fume Blanc. Something of a drink - what I've been given during my stay.  The floors creak, the old 116 year old cabin smells like an antique.  There's a hum coming from somewhere, and the fl...
