The Don't Tells first started out as (the) Sissy Bars in New Haven, CT, in 2000. They started out slow, opening a few shows for Hot Rod Circuit, also New Haven locals and Casey's other band. With this original lineup - Casey and Kate Prestwood, Jamie Shugrue, Ian Fenger, and Mike Poorman -- they recorded a s/t 7 at Small Church in Boston, MA, featuring two songs Ew Ew Ew and Jamie's Red Eye. At this point they were much more interested in Motown than anything else, and it shows in these two songs. One year later they recorded their first full length Our Reunion is Pending at NYHed/Peligro Audio in New York City. For this recording they changed drummers (Tucker Rule of Thursday), and Jamie stepped forward as a bass player. Their sound had begun to change as well, as they headed in a more rock direction with this bunch of songs. Right before the release of this record, they had yet ANOTHER change in line up -- now with Dan Duggins on drums and Casey McBride on bass. With all the changes, they thought a change in name might be appropriate. So they started anew as The Don't Tells in 2003. Our Reunion is Pending is credited to them as The Don't Tells. Following the album's release, they did their first full-US tour in 2003, touring with The Boxes, Remedy Session, Everybody Else, and Loudermilk. In 2004, they started work on their latest record, Our Separate Ways. They recorded this in Hamden, CT, at InnerSpaceSoundLabs with good friend Scott Amore (Butterfiles of Love). Their sound remained the same although it had become a bit more explorative, and each of the members tried out new instruments. Casey M. played bass and the xylophone. Dan played drums and the vibraphone. Kate sang, played her casio, and tried out some stuff on the Hammond organ. Casey P. sang, played guitar, and used pedal steel on a couple tracks. Two friends contributed as well - Clark Huckaby played fiddle on two tracks, and Arun Bali played some additional guitar on three tracks. They took their time recording this record, and it is due out in the spring of this year, 2007. They are very proud of this record, noting that they have come a long way since their 2003 release. With each record going further than the one before, The Don't Tells continue to grow as bandmates and musicians. Be sure to listen for their latest songs they have coming up this spring. And don't forget to check their website for more information, updates, photos and merch.
