Fuck yeah, god damnit! Another brutal metallic hardcore band from Finland. I cannot fucking believe how many amazingly awesome bands of this nature there are in Finland, but I think if I lived there my fucking head would explode as a result. These guys have a slightly different sound than most of their fellow countrymen as their guitar tone is thick and nasty and sort of hints at the Sunlight sound or something. The drums are a touch thin in some respects, but the guitars definitely run the show, and the bass is thick as fuck so there’s plenty of density to be had. Vocally expect nothing but raging midrange screams that have a nice texture, so all in all the recording is solid for a demo. There’s room for improvement (maybe add some warmth to the percussion and more definition to the bass tone, while dropping the vocals back in the mix), but I can live with it. From a writing standpoint this stuff is definitely pretty hard on the metal, but always retains a hardcore sense of groove as far as throwing in memorable breaks and chunky midpaced excellence with some of the dissonant chord phrasings, tremolo picking, and subtle melody of modern times. In a sense there are light dashes of the melodic Swedish style, but barely, so I don’t want to create any confusion there: For the most part this shit is loud and brutal as hell, but the songs are definitely memorable and have a lot of energy going on. "15/03" has a much groovier churn to its riffing that fucks with the time signatures at times, but it doesn’t go overboard with the staccato stuff or anything like that, so these cats definitely know how to keep the force rolling. This track, like the awesome opener "Back From the Dead", also features some sneering high-end screams, and I’m digging that contrast as well. "Conversation Thru a Door" adds in a little more speed to the churning grooves, and that’s a strong balance as well. "Back From the Dead" is the best track though, there’s just something about it that blows up right away and never falters - definitely an energetic piece. The CD-R comes in a standard jewel case with a decent looking layout that was probably printed from a high quality color printer or something. It’s nothing fancy but it looks alright and gets the job done, so fuck it. No lyrics are included but I’m guessing the shit’s pissed as hell considering both the music and the vocal performance. Hopefully these guys will get signed by Full House Records like a shitload of the other awesome Finnish metalcore bands and do a full-length soon. Sign me up, because this shit is fuckin’ great!
