Verbal Oasis

About Me

Monique Franklin is an aspiring poet and artist from Seattle, Washington. She has been writing poetry and short stories since the age of eight. She currently writes under the pseudonym Verbal Oasis. She began performing early in life, in family productions, then graduated to high school plays and eventually found herself performing in a poetry/spoken word group "The Dead Poets" based at Shoreline Community College. She is a member of the African American Writer's Alliance and The coordinator for Communities Against Rape and Abuse's (C.A.R.A.)monthly Ladies First Event. The subject matter of her poetry stems from the rich spectrum of her life experiences. Verbal Oasis is a Creative Soul.

In February 1991, Californian Randee Eddins called to order the first meeting of the African-American Writers’ Alliance (AAWA). Her idea to begin an informal gathering of Northwest black writers meeting for mutual support and encouragement through the exchange of ideas and concepts via their writing became a reality.
