About Me

Tom "Runner" Galle
I´ve started to work on this project (Light in the Hell) in September 2001. Mentioned project is representing the heights of my long standing work with photographic picture. Technologically, the pictures are based on mostly black and white negative and positive scans of materials from approximatelly 1986 to present time. Furthermore, I process these digitalised photographic pictures on the computer using the tools derivated from classical photographic techniques. Described method represents outcome of my long-lasting interest in unrestricted manipulation with photographic medium and of my effort to break limits of its „naturalism“. This unlimited and free manipulation with photographic data issues in certain photographic painting, „cyber pictorialism“.
Poetics of pictures is also reflecting my relationship to science fiction, cyber-punk literature, popular and scientific books dealing with physics and cosmology, cinematography and electronic music. It is a reaction to reality and a possibility to reconcile with it somehow.
Static pictures, however, present only one half of my project. Already long time I´ve been interested in an idea to create „dynamic pictures“, that will feature certain „film“ qualities and that will be connected with ambient acoustic spaces and rhythms. This idea has been realised in cooperation with Patrik Lev, the author of acoustic project H.E.E.L.
H.E.E.L. – LIGHT IN THE HELL is approximately one hour lasting projection of my pictures accompanied by mesmeric romantic-industrial sounds and threading acoustic shapes and forms.
H.E.E.L. – LIGHT IN THE HELL presents an alliance of electronic ambient music and uninterrupted stream of projected pictures. Both music and pictures are adjusted in a way that enables to viewers - listeners create their own interpretations and associations. The project, however, at the same time reflects disastrous economic and politic status of great part of the world, enormous speed of technological progress, especially within so called Western Society and complexity of relationships of both individual and society towards these technologies as well as to their stronger and stronger connection. It also shows the disproportions between life experience of an individual and global manifestations of civilisation, such as wars, terorism, political and religious machinery, supranational imperialism and slow, yet sharp start of big industrial corporations governing. At the same time, whole project can be sensed also as romantic game, blending of lights, pictures and acoustic sounds, colours, shapes and forms…. Patrik Lev and Martin Pavlík are authors of music, Tomáš Galle is the author of pictures. Both H.E.E.L. – musical part, and LIGHT IN THE HELL – visual part, have arisen individually and separately.
