trace024 : post-minimalism - 4 countries / 19 composers 2CD
At the beginning of the 1960’s, minimalism’s focus on the elementary units of musical language brought once again to the forefront such elements as the beat, tonal attraction, and the perception of (and communication with) the listener.
Despite some neo-classical drifts, minimalism was a progressive movement that brought to light several important issues for contemporary musicians: the relationship between academic and popular music, between occidental and world music, and between technological and instrumental music. Minimalism also pointed to a new relationship with time.
What is the picture today, forty years later?
We asked several musicians from different countries (we contacted them through « myspace.com » website), to compose a work showing the legacy.
Here they are.

mymwly0056 : valerio cosi / wilson lee – cold solemn rites in the sun cd-r
dense tonal excursions of gitar and sax…washes of sweet deep sound , bent
abruptly into shape by bursts of jazzish percussion…moving things into
higher mind states until the crisp language of the sax touches open the
pineal windows and all gorgeous color bleeds through…fuck yeah…high is god.
NAFH26 : mike tamburo & wilson lee - " boyinger " double 3"
The Boyinger was a site specific 24 foot instrument built and performed by Mike Tamburo out of a broken mandolin. The first disc features a solo performance of the instrument. Disc two features Wilson Lee (Fathmount) remixing, reworking and performing with the music on disc one.
sod 17 : jade emperor - telegrams for our council oak cd-r
Jade Emperor is a long distance collaboration between the uber-productive Brad Rose and
Hong Kong's Wilson Lee. The sounds on the record are unique to both musician's
repertoires, with the folk driven melodies of many of Rose's projects, and the wide-ranging,
polyphonic guitar experimentations of Lee's work in Fathmount fusing and contorting in order
to create something entirely new. "Telegrams for our Council Oak" is a reverent album,
full of bright, echoing picking and deep, billowing drones that sound like they could have been
recorded under the auspices of some ancient clergy from outer space.
foxglove125 : fathmount "6-string renderings (two)" cd-r
wasting time looking for the perfect sound or drone will take forever. as you spread your wings toward eternity, consider the majesty that is fathmount. this solo project from hong kong's wilson lee (of new fairfield parks & recreation) is a barren sonic landscape. it pushes the acid rain back behind the city walls and cuts through the thick smog like a knife. minimal guitar soundscapes that float above the upper crust of psychedelic glory, only to leave you abandoned in their hypnotic wake. beautiful.
NAFH17 : fathmount "6-string renderings (one)" CD
For fans of guitar terror. Fathmount is Wilson Lee from Hong Kong's experimental duo "new fairfield parks & recreation". By playing 6-string guitar, mics and mixer feedback, fathmount makes itself an improvising project that combines noise drone/ electro-acoustics and folk. Performed/collaborated with Brad Rose, Birchville Cat Motel, Antony Milton and FM3 (china duo). Recently completed 3 records "6-string renderings 1 & 2" (releasing on newamericanfolkhero and later foxglove) and "continuum overflow". "6-string renderings (one)" is the beginning of the project that works with drone, noise and guitar overtones.
foxglove109 : new fairfield parks & recreation "aftermath victoria analysis" cd-r
hailing from hong kong comes new fairfield parks & recreation (nfpnr). soaking themselves in the austere rays of the blackened sun, this duo transforms the sounds of an urban park into something simultaneously sublime and dissonant. these recordings are finely sculpted from the mirth of the dirt and trees, serenading the heavens as dusk approaches from the east. thick walls of electric guitar howl weave between the cicada screams and wailing branches. nfpnr are brilliant at mixing these field recordings with the spectral mass of their instruments. "aftermath victoria analysis" is only the beginning.
