A day without a train ride is a day lost forever

About Me

Life is good. I'm doing my stock charts and research, full steam ahead with community work, and hearing some very good bands. And my partner, Steve, is following his passion, oil painting.
I'm a workaholic. Spend most of my time with the stocks and the community work. HOWEVER, NO DAY IS COMPLETE WITHOUT LISTENING TO MY FAVORITE BANDS AND ALSO DOING SOME SERIOUS TRAIN OR TROLLEY RIDING!
Our community group is working on a couple new projects this season. Here is the webpage, still "under construction" ::: West Girard Community Council . The community work is important to me. Last Fall I was one of the recipients of the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations' 2007 Human Rights Award for Community Service. St. Stephen's Church Philadelphia, where I attend, did a partial reprint on its website ::::: St. Stephen's Church

Six months have gone by since my last Philly Band Week, and I've been busy listening to live music. I've found myself now going to hear on the average of about six bands live each week. It's a lot of fun. ... Sometimes I go back to hear bands that I've heard before. I enjoy seeing how the music evolves; I enjoy seeing the creative process up close.
And I also enjoy finding bands that I haven't heard before, listening to their full spectrum of work. I've come up with seven special Philly bands to make up PHILLY BAND WEEK NO.3, on my page right now.
7 unique Philly bands / 1 featured each day for the next week
7 distinct styles / 7 different moods
NEW MUSIC / FRESHLY WRITTEN & RECENTLY RELEASED (most in 2006)
Mar 05-06 : "She Dares All Things" by Panda Riot
Mar 07 : "Fueled for Surf" / "Last Forever Final" by In Secrecy
Mar 08 : "Happy New Year" by Three 4 Tens
Mar 09 : "Give Up" by Windsor Park Walkers
Mar 10 : "4 Letter Friend" by Pepper's Ghost
Mar 11 : "Busport" by The Silence
Mar 12 : "Awash In Composure" by L'envoi
These 7 bands and the and the other 17 are ones that I blast on my computer each day. Their music has given me hours of enjoyment. I want you to hear them, too.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Also check out the bands listed below. Who's written new music? Who's doing a show?

Sep 04-12, 2006
This was a great summer! I heard a lot of good music. So a few weeks ago I decided to have another Philly Band Week, where I could share some of my favorites with friends. Again I featured a different band each day.
CHECK EACH ONE OUT! You’ll like the wide range of sounds! Collectively, the 8 bands being featured either describe themselves as, or say their influences are from: rock, shoegaze, jazz, post punk, soul, indie, jam, classic rock, experimental, folk rock, psychedelic, neo-psychedelia, avant garde, hip hop, ambient, funk, alternate rock, and pop. So check them all out. If you set these 8 bands next to the previous ones from Philly Band Week No.1, I think you’ll still have a hard time finding two that are the same! Definitely worth checking them all!
Sep 04-05 : "The Latin Tune" by Codename
Sep 06 : "A Little" by Like A Fox
Sep 07 : "Sea of My Discretion" by The Silence Kit
Sep 08 : "Here We Go" by The Asteroid No.4
Sep 09 : "Free" by Carmen Chiles
Sep 10 : "Modern Dances" by The Situation
Sep 11 : "Mythologies Live" by Windsor for the Derby
Sep 12 : "Heaven" by The Swimmers
Most of these bands have busy schedules. Check out who's doing a show this week and who's written some new music!

A few months ago I decided to have a "Philly Band Week" on my page. I had heard a bunch of good bands live, and this was the best way I figured I could share the music with friends.
I featured a different band each day. Each band is different in that each one has its own unique instrumental and vocal stylings, but the one thing they all do have in common is that they're all good.
I decided to leave the list up in case you didn't hear them all or in case you want to hear them again!
May30-31 : "The Song that Merri Likes" by Degenerating Judgement
Jun 01 : "807 Dub" by Bebek
Jun 02 : "Cryogenic Sleep" by Stellarscope
Jun 03 : "Body to Body" by Kandy Whales
Jun 04 : "Midst of Your Mystery" by Laura Cheadle
Jun 05 : "le chat" by The Clamor
Jun 06 : "Acting Like a Guy" by Smyth
Jun 07 : "Strangers Afar - demo" by Red Heaven
Jun 08 : "Get Over It (at 449 Room)" by Selkow
As I made up this list I realized that half the bands were ones I found out about on my own, but the other half were ones that found me by sending be-my-friend-band-spam. So, to friends on Myspace I would say that if a band ever sends you a friend request, take a minute to listen to them. It could just be one of your next favorites!
Most of these bands have busy schedules. Check out who's doing a show this week and who's written some new music!
