Hey I'm Sourdiesel! Nice to meet you. I am a Drum and Bass DJ from the Northeast US. I started going to parties in 1999. I had just gotten kicked out of my moms house and moved in with my dad. One night I was walking down the street trying to find something to do and these kids came up in a car and were wearing funny clothes and feathers and shit and they were like do you know how to get to Space?? I was like fuck I don't know... So they were like do you want to come with us to a party and I was like sure. So I got in the car and we saw other kids walking and they gave us directions. When I got there I couldn't believe it. I was immediately one of them, dancing spinning glowsitcks. By 12:00 my arms had candy all the way up them and I had stickers all over my face, and a giant blow pop sticking out of my mouth. At around 2 o clock some guy pulled up in a light blue pickup truck and got out with flyers for an after hours event. I looked at this shady character and he had a bone right through his nose. I was like whats this. He asked me if I had ever been to God's Bassment. I was like no so him and this girl gave me a ride there and I was like wow this is so fucking cool. I had no idea that stuff like this ever went on. Mind you I was 19 and came from Delaware hardly knowing anything of the rave scene or electronic music at all. I heard a fast jazzy beat with all of these weird noises and I was like just moving my feet, I was almost tap dancing. I asked what kind of music is this? And some candy girl came up to me and said Drum and Bass. From this point on I have been in love with the new forms evolving from it everyday.People say the scene is dead. Or drum and bass isn't as good as it was in '98. Thats BULLSHIT! The scene is constantly growing and becoming more massive every single day. I think today Drum and Bass is stronger than ever. Thats why I named my new mix "The Strength" It's a constant reminder to me and all the people I'm friends with that DRUM AND BASS IS HERE TO STAY! Now that I've been through almost every single progression of rave development I'm here to give the magic back. I hope one day some random kid down on his luck will walk in and hear me spinning and feel the same way I did that night, start moving his feet and have a new positive message to spread. I support not only Drum and Bass but all fun energetic forms of electronic music. I think behind all the bullshit and whatnot that the RAVE scene is a positive thing. It gives people a chance to come and have fun. To express their individuality and learn to love again. This is how it affects me, if I never found out about this PHENOMENON, I would probably just be a miserable fuck with nothing to do.Today I'm just a Candy Junglist who spins records there is nothing really to it. I'm just another one of you guys performing my job and role in the scene. I don't believe in the elitist mindset or the drugged out all the time one. I think there is a time and place for everything. In order for us to be strong as a tribe or community we have to take positive actions and make the right decisions to keep things moving forward. We also have to unify there is enough pie for everybody to get a slice. There is no reason to throw parties with separated genres. Let there be something for everybody so that the magic can spread!
