I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Hi, my name is Laurie. Hmmm... what to say? I have three kids that I adore, even though they drive me crazy. I've just married my best friend and soulmate, so I'm loving life like never before. Will brings me joy every day. It's great to finally be with someone who gets me. I started a new job last year as a secretary with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office. They're a great group of people, and I'm having fun with it. I still hope to wrap up my bachelor's in English and go to graduate school; but right now my focus is on my family, so school is on hold. Creative writing is what lights me up inside though. Some of my short stories are posted on my blog. Read them and comment and I'll love you forever. I am very grateful to be sober for over twelve years. Life works much better for me that way. I want to live my life fearlessly and never stop growing.

My Interests

In the last couple of years, I have developed a passion for swing dancing. My dance friends are a fantastic group of people--Y-town swing kids rock! I read compulsively: sometimes deep, artsy brainfood, but mostly just for entertainment. I'm a karaoke diva, and I shoot a decent game of pool. I love to draw, sew, and fool around creatively. I have a nifty little hobby of painting very intricate designs on Converse sneakers--I don't expect to make a fortune at it, but people really seem to like them.
I’m a proud dancer in The Swing Jam!

I'd like to meet:

No one in particular. I meet people everywhere I go--it's a skill of mine. For me, Myspace is a great way to keep in touch with the friends I already have.

Television:

I don't watch T.V. Seriously, not at all. American Idol, Survivor, whatever, I'm completely clueless. I'd rather spend time with the people I love, or curl up with a good book.

Books:

I read constantly. You will never catch me without a book.

Heroes:

My parents, for facing unimaginable tragedy with grace and courage.

If you want to make God laugh, just tell him your plans.

I just met with Dr. Salvner at YSU to put together an alternative educational plan since I've decided to take this job, and I'm feeling low right now. I can graduate, eventually. I have no doubt I'll ...

We have mice.

My children thought it would be super-cool to get pet mice, both of whom escaped within days.  Every so often, I see one zip from the cupboard where I keep the skillets and dart underneath the st...

Is your glass half full, or half empty?

Shat-R-Prufe (the poem that spawned the nickname)

I wrote this poem in 1991. I don't know it's my best, but it was certainly my most heartfelt. I wrote it as part of the process of working through my feelings after my younger sister Missy d...
