~♥That Girl♥~

I am just your ordinary average, everyday, sane, psycho, super goddess.

About Me

My name is Janine: a relocated New Yorker (Staten Island, home of the dump seen from space), I was dragged to Tucson at the age of seventeen and over the years I have fallen in love with my new home. I can't really complain about 70 in December, can you? I didn't think so.

An ordinary life with extraordinary circumstances...
I have a degree in education from the U of AZ. I taught for a year and didn't love the school. After plans to move to Los Angeles fell through, I ended up back in Tucson. Since, I have worked at Casa de Los Ninos (a home for abused and neglected children), nannied for three girls with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and now I tutor biology at the community college level. I am part of the U of A's accelerated nursing program and would love to become an OR nurse. Eventually a nurse practitioner.
I have dreams to be a big screenwriter someday and live in Los Angeles (take two) where everyone will seek my newest screenplay. Of course, by then everyone will be envious of the newest thing to hit Hollywood (hey a girl can dream.) For now, I'll pretend I have the right to tell you what to read and watch by running a website with my friends. Check it out at: Reviewer Notebook
I am currently living with my parents and our little dog too-- not exactly the best situation but the most affordable. My goals: to get out of the house, to obtain a degree in nursing/become a nurse practitioner, to get out of the house, to lose a bit more weight...and have I mentioned to get out of the house?

My Interests

I am an interest phobe...well not really. I spend a lot of time reading just about anything. In fact, I now carry a book with me wherever I go. I love to dance and sing, especially in my car with the radio blaring. Acting is a passion of mine I discovered in high school (though you'll probably never see me on TV). I go to the movies and love the beach, so I travel whenever I can. I have recently discovered scrapbooking and I love it. If I'm not doing anything else, I'll surf the net and work on my novels and screenplays. Now someday you MIGHT see my name in print.

I'd like to meet:

I love to collect celebrity autographs so meeting anyone is a thrill. It's always funny when people can say, "Oh I met her at..." and sound like they are a total social butterfly.
However, there are a few people I would love to meet: Lauren Graham, Scott Patterson and Amy Sherman-Pallidino (all of Gilmore Girls), Debra Messing, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Greg Behrendt, Patrick Dempsey, Kate Walsh...the list grows all the time. I also get a real thrill out of meeting new friends from the internet and have journeyed across the country to do it.

Some Celebrities I've Already Met
Over the course of the last several years I've had the opportunity to meet a few "B Listers" and an "A Lister" or two. Among them: Jane Seymour, Joe Lando, Barbara Babcock and the rest of the cast from 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman', the cast of NBC's daytime soap 'Passions' (way too many times), Ray Romano, Kelly Clarkson (twice), Christina Christianson, several of the 'American Idol' season 3 top 12 including winner Fantasia, Johnny Maestro (of the Crests/Brooklyn Bridge), Colin Raye (country star), Seven/Keith Volpone (of Seven and the Sun/Whiskey Falls), Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell, Reba McIntire, Dr. Phil, Alison Dubois (the woman Medium is based on) and Nicole Ritchie.

..

Music:

I am big time into Kelly Clarkson (she is, after all, the one true Idol.) I also love just about everything you hear on the top 40 except I'm really not into rap and heavy metal, though I'll make an exception for Guns N' Roses. Bon Jovi is really awesome and on the light side of classics I like Billy Joel. I'll listen to country on occasion and, I'm sorry, but I think Mariah was better in the 90s. I was also raised on the golden oldies (and I mean OLDIES). 50's 60's...it's all good. My newest favorite to the list is Aussie band The Veronicas. Check them out!

Movies:

Who doesn't love Gone with the Wind? I was raised on the classic movies and still enjoy most of them. Old musicals have their moments and I'll watch Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn and Lucille Ball any day. I love just about any romantic comedy, comedy, horror and even a few action movies (Lethal Weapon/Die Hard). I'm pretty diverse in my collection and I'll usually see anything that looks entertaining. I will confess I have never seen the new Star Wars movies or The Lord of the Rings (tried, but fell asleep during the first one). Despite that, I think Jaws, Poltergeist and Scream are just classic.

Television:

At one time I was a self-confessed soap addict. I watched Days of Our Lives, Passions and Young and the Restless. I am finally over that hump. Now I'm more into nighttime dramas. I can't miss Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Heroes or Gossip Girl. I own all the seasons of Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The only comedies I watch are reruns of older shows: Will and Grace, Friends, Sex in the City and The Nanny. I have been known to watch South Park, The Simpsons (I am so Lisa) and Family Guy. I used to be really into reality TV but I am tired of the same old thing. I miss creativity.

Books:

I adore the Harry Potter series (come on, admit it, you do too). My book tastes are as diverse as my music and movies. I'll read just about everything short of text books and sometimes even a few of those. Mostly I stick to fiction, though. My website is the best place to check my reading habits.
Current Read: The Eyre Affair

Heroes:

This is a tricky question. My parents were my heroes for such a long time but as I get older I see them in a different light. Not everyone deserves a monument in his or her honor. My great aunt, who survived cancer in a time when doctors thought no one could, is a major hero in my life though. They told her if she survived the tumor she would never walk again. Today, she is almost eighty and walks with the aid of a cane. So much for never.
I don't look up to many celebrities. I figure they are just normal people with better paying jobs.
