How does one really describe oneself to others? I could begin with some adjectives: quirky, fun, witty, smart, creative, engaging. Does listing adjectives really give a picture of a person you do not know?
My own mistakes have taught me many lessons, but they have also shown me how to be more tolerant of those around me. Some would say I'm too tolerant or non-judgmental, I kinda like it this way. Far less energy is wasted on the actions of others.
I like to entertain those around me, but not everyone gets me. My humor style tends towards the dry or even sarcastic, some might even say sardonic. However, I'll laugh at almost any kind of humor. I love to laugh. Do it all the time, sometimes even in the midst of tears I will find something to laugh myself into recovery over.
I don't have any artistic talent that I've discovered other than the ability to appreciate the artistic talents of others. I love music and a great deal of my life revolves around music. Music of ALL styles, and I really do mean all styles. I could give you a soundtrack to my life if hard-pressed. Songs link me to every important milestone or moment of my life and very often I can give you the year a song came out because I can remember what was going on in my life as that song was popular. It's a weird talent, I know.
I love art and gallery or museum wanderings. Everywhere I travel, I try to take in at least one museum because I would just hate to miss perhaps my only opportunity to see the work of a master. I collect black and white photographs, so I also try to pick up a meaningful print on all of my journeys to help me reminisce. Photos adorn all my walls at home so that walking through my home is full of wonderful memories at each pass.
And books. Can't forget the role that books have played in my life. As a child I often escaped into the world of others through books. A great deal of who I am is probably due to my voracious appetite for books throughout my life. I still try to read for a bit every day, no matter how hectic life becomes.
I suppose the best word I could use to sum myself up to a stranger would be: inquisitive. I'm curious about the world, that which surrounds me and that which is far, far away. I'm interested in people, not just in an abstract sense, but also in a very real and genuine personal sense. I'm thirsty for knowledge in a variety of areas and generally binge-learn on one topic until my interest wanders toward something else - making me a master of nothing, but I can hold my own in conversations on a multitude of topics.
