Westgate

Westgate, born into this world by surrogate mothers, brandished with the burden of having to uphold the title of "Defenders of Rock", have become a prominent act in the Boston music scene. The seeds of Westgate were planted around 2002 with acoustic pop foursome Y Not U, upon which brothers Collins and Filtrante split from frontman Brad Pitcher, citing musical differences.Working on new material, the three teamed with mystery guitar whiz Benedict Arnold. The band rehearsed in the now infamous Quincy rehearsal room without heat or hot water, often wearing ski caps and heavy winter coats during practices. While new band Hoodwink developed Coldplay influenced tunes, the Collins brothers added dueling guitars to funk metal side project Dream Like State. After splitting peacefully with Arnold towards the end of 2003, the 3 remaining band members saw themselves move into a new rehearsal room in Chelmsford, MA with members of Dream Like State.As a threesome, they wrote most of the songs that would become the fuel for Westgate including Wasted, Cities and Cells and Maze. The subsequent demise of Dream Like State saw the formation of new band Superswitch led by Pitcher with the rhythm section of D.L.S. in tow. The new Westgate material started to take on new life and direction, far from the nostalgic love songs of Hoodwink, these were songs of great might and power. Angry, at times politically motivated, and more socially conscious, Westgate developed a sound that would wow critics and gain universal appeal. After recording a demo in 2005 and adding multitalented artist and musician Eric Blomster, the band started to play shows in and around Boston. The band has endured ups and downs including the loss of Blomster's massive sideburns and constant battles between the Collins brothers to arrive at the their current destination, perched eagerly on the highest branch in the tree, ready to pounce on unsuspecting victims and mediocre pop groups and lead their followers on an uplifting musical journey.
