A Couple of Favourite Songwriters Quotes Follows...
“Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men; Some will rob you with a six-gun , And some with a fountain pen ”
“It's round the world I've traveled; it's round the world I've roamed; but I've yet to see an outlaw drive a family from its home”

WOODY GUTHRIE, from Pretty Boy Floyd
“ Progress and love have got nothing in common, Jesus healed a blind man's eyes with mud."
PETER CASE, from Poor Old Tom
“ Everybody told me you can't get far On thirty-seven dollars and a Jap Guitar."
STEVE EARLE, from Guitar Town
Favourite song could be Gallo Del Cielo, by Tom Russell. A song about theft, hope, success, gambling, heartbreak and shame - all rolled into a song - could someone good make a film of this song?
A brief but utterly captivating biography about Davy Nicol follows
SCOTLAND 1 - 0 FRANCE - I was there!!!
Born in a wee town called Greenock and grew up in neighbouring town Gourock on the scenic West Coast of Scotland. My main interest is music and I perform acoustic gigs and am also in a five-piece band called The Lazarenkos.
I have performed live in various countries throughout the years, mainly UK, US, and Germany. As well as performing my own material, I on occasion throw some choice covers into the mix. I also like to play live with The Lazarenkos. We perform mostly our own material and take influences from various genres including pop, country, folk. I also like a game of football (that will be soccer to any American friends reading this!) now and then. I like song-writing when I don't get writers block or is it lazy block!
I decided to make a CD album, "Across The River", which was recorded live at Blackfriars in Glasgow. This is simply an acoustic guitar and vocal recording. During this period I frequented Glasgow Songwriters and this CD displays the songs performed at this time. There are aspects of the CD I knew could have been better and more polished, but nevertheless the songs are a record of this period of my life and I still think they are OK and I hope you like them too! On the inlay sleeve, I mentioned that bits fell off my guitar. This was true at the time! I have had a couple of new guitars since then!
Hope you enjoy the stuff! If not there is no refund!..

Dwight Yoakam (always tours with a band that are cool and can play like hell) The Byrds, Los Lobos, Peter Case, Gram Parsons, The Lazarenkos, Creedence, Glen Campbell, John Fogerty, Nat King Cole, Stax and Motown Soul (in my opinion arguably the best and most talented pop musicians/singers/songwriters in music history - See Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye), Rockabilly music, Many Bluegrass artists (in my opinion arguably the best players etc etc), loads of original reggae/ska artists (see trojan records),

.......YOU REALLY STILL READING THIS?.......

Loads of Blues artists (see ACE and Chess Records), Beatles, Specials, Madness, Bad Manners, Aswad, 2-tone bands, Clash and some other punk bands.

Other than that I like rock, pop, country, folk, you name it I probably like it! Can't resist the brill women of country/folk music too - Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffith, KD Lang, Iris Dement, Mary Black etc (see below!).

On top of that tune into my myspace friends below - they have something good to offer to your eyes & ears!

Just to add - below is a taste of what I think the term X-Factor is - not that mind numbing "money laundered" garbage elevator music that pollutes Saturday Night Tele.

Now who did I miss: Daniel O'Donnell, The Wombles, Rene and Renata, Pinky and Perky, John Candy, David Soul, Dennis Waterman, Keith Harris and Orville, Spit The Dog, Mr Blobby, The guy that busks in Greenock Town Centre, The Teletubbies, Rolf Harris, Chuck Connors, Sploganessabonds, the wee annoying bloke with specs in the Bank of Scotland Advert.

Anyone seeing this would think I had too much time on my hands...

Phew! did you get this far? I don't talk this much in real life. Nuff said - enjoy!

Christy Moore - Natives

Earl Scruggs and All Star Cast - Foggy Mountain Breakdown

Johnny Cash - San Quentin

Stan and Ollie dance to The Proclaimers - I'm On My Way

Iris Dement, Emmylou, Jerry Douglas and All Star Cast - Our Town

Sounds Like: A mish mash of things. Maybe sometimes sound like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lyle Lovett, Dougie MacLean, Peter Case, Steve Earle, a food mixer on the second setting, a blocked hoover.

Type of Label: Major
