Mehmet Aydin holds a Bachelor of Music (Viola performance) from the New England Conservatory and a pre-college certification from the Juilliard school. Besides his ventures with the viola, he likes to inspire young minds and let them explore and find their love for music. He has composed works in classical, free, experimental and un-nameable styles and further enjoyed photography, poetry, digital painting and improvising on any instrument he would find sitting around.
Aydin has appeared at concert venues in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Michigan, Connecticut, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey-Including venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. In his classically oriented career he has taken the role of an assistant principal in various orchestras including the Red Bull Artsehcro, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, the Juilliard Pre College Orchestra and as principal violist of the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. He has had the opportunity to share stages with incredible musicians and friends including Burt Bacharach, Kenny Werner, Tim Hagans and Christian McBride. As a soloist, he has played with the Fairfield County String Orchestra, the Young Artists Philharmonic. He was awarded first prize at the following competitions: Greenwich Center for Chamber Music (solo performance -Brahms sonata), the Fairfield County Composers Showcase (composition - "Infinity" for viola & piano) and an honorable mention for a performance of the Schumann Piano Quintet at the Summit music festival.
He is studying viola with Jodi Levitz and has also learned from Marcus Thompson, the Borremeo String Quartet, Kim Kashkashian, Paul Hersh, Eugene Becker, Sue Corey and Koral Calgan; microtonal studies and improvisation with Joe Maneri, Bob Moses, Ray Pizzi, Michael Cain, Warren Senders, composition with Michael Gandolfi, solfege and ear training with Larry Scripp, Douglas Buys, Ertug Korkmaz and lessons in life from his family and great friends and many colleagues that comes across his way.
Since September 2007, he has been living in Istanbul, playing viola with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, Borusan Chamber Orchestra, CRR Istanbul Symphony Orchestra and also is making music for T.V. commercials at Jingle Mingle, one of Istanbul's finest production studios.
