Who is Drew?
Well, Drew is a half Filipino, half American male, spending most of his time in Orlando . His hometown is Clearwater , FL ; however he was born in St. Petersburg , FL , just south of Clearwater . His full name is Drew Douglas Liles (he is NOT an "An"drew). He is a rather interesting male, though he can be quite the bore at times. He loves to be goofy at times and with the right people around, he can be very goofy. He likes the occasional snide, witty or sarcastic comment, but knows when to be serious, which isn't that often. Drew plays the guitar as well as the piano; though don't expect any virtuoso in either department. Drew likes to think he can sing, but really, he can't.
I really enjoyed this one comment, a certain Kerry Gregovich said about Drew at a party the other night. She said, "I love how Drew can just sit there and rock out by himself." I thought that was an excellent quote that exemplifies Drew. He has fun with others around, but at the same time, he's quite fine being alone, though not too alone, that can be unhealthy. Drew is also a bit girl crazy at the moment. But at the same time, he has trouble being honest about how he feels. Even though logically, he knows he has nothing to lose, he can't bring himself to talk to a girl he is infatuated with, and when he does, he's so nervous he can't really be himself. He's not honest with his feelings unless it is to someone that isn't affected by his emotions or it is someone he is completely comfortable with, and that takes some time to build. He builds that closeness by working with others, playing sports with others, or sharing classes together, and eventually these bonds are established.
Drew also displaces reality, almost to an unhealthy level. Tony Russo stated this best when Drew stated that he used up all his good serves and now he only bad serves left. "This isn't a video game. You don't have a certain set of good serves before you run out." This is Drew's video game mentality, and it sometimes surfaces in his thinking, whether it is about a volleyball game or with life in general. You could think of it as a whacked out form of Karma. Drew also likes to attach his life to songs and even sometimes movies and books, but mostly just songs. Drew likes to dream. Could be a day-dream, or a dream filled sleep, either way, Drew enjoys the escape from reality, yet total and complete emersion, which probably explains Drew's love of video games. Drew hardly has dreams, or at least he hardly ever remembers dreaming.
Drew is constantly listening to music, and if he is not, it is usually because he is either playing music on the guitar, or he is walking somewhere (he's not cool like those iPod kids). As of now, he is starting to write music with Tony Russo, though the process is not formal in anyway, and merely just for funzies. As soon as I figure out how to put their songs on here, I'll do so. As of now, they have one song completely drafted, a solo guitar piece written by Tony, and lyrics by Drew and Tony, inspired by the song, for the song. Their current projects are a simple two part guitar piece named "collide", a cute little one string melody play, and anything that comes to mind while their working on stuff. Don't think anything too highly of this yet, they are merely having fun. Their lyrics at the moment are very simple, nothing creative and cool. They're just having fun and they think it's cool, so that's all that matters. (In reality, I'm not sure why I spent so much time talking about that, since it's not really about Drew. Maybe it is one of Drew's dreams, to be in a band, or at least a singer/song writer)
Drew is a fun guy, if you get to know him. He can be talkative, but some people have a hard time getting him to say anything. He likes connecting with people, once the nervousness is gone.
He injures himself a good amount of times, mostly because of his lack of self-regard. He gives his all, and when you do that, your body tends to fail. But he's fine with that. It wouldn't be fine if he didn't try, right?
Now for the boring stuff. He is an electrical engineer, in this third year at UCF. He is starting research for Dr. John Shen, in the Power Semiconductor Research Laboratory, which right now, is basically Dr. Shen's office. Drew is also the corresponding secretary of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honors society. Don't let the Greek letter confuse you--Drew is a G.D.I. all the way. But he's got nothing against Greeks--if anything, it's jealousy. Unless you ask Drew or see him in the Honors College , you wouldn't know he was in honors. In fact, even if you saw him there, you'd probably wonder why he was there. He usually doesn't wear shoes while meandering between the computer lab, the offices, and the reading room. In addition, Drew is an RA for the Hercules community (BLDG 111 & 112 - the THRONE of 111). He loves his staff and has made many of his new friends through his staff. He also loves his residents - Drew
Now don't get me wrong, Drew is not perfect by all means. He is a horrible procrastinator. HORRIBLE. He also does not like conflict, and is pretty bad with keeping in touch with people. Drew is also pretty messy. Even if he cleans his room, it would still be dirty by most people's standards. And then it doesn't stay clean for more than a day. Drew also lacks a certain ambition, drive and/or dream(s) to follow. He's not a complete slacker. He does have decent grades and is building up a good resume, but he's doing that for the sake of not screwing himself. Drew doesn't know what he wants to do. Sure he has a major, but it is not a career. Even though he seems to have direction, with doing research in his major, he isn't doing it because it's where he wants to go. Drew's trying to stay a float. He knows what he needs to do, but not what he wants to do. Drew dreams about having a dream, essentially. He wants to want something, but in reality, doesn't really want anything. He can be happy with what he's got, even though he strives for better things. Drew can be stubborn at times, wanting things his way, but he is usually fine with others in control, though he can take the reins of a situation when he needs to.
All in all, Drew is a great guy. I don't know what turns girls away from him, once they get to know him, but it happens. Maybe he just spends too much time being nervous, so they lose interest? Or maybe they expect him to make a move? I don't know. He also doesn't feel good about rejecting others. It sucks for him so much to be rejected, so he understands the feelings and tries not to continue the vicious cycle. But at the same time, he can't live a lie. He can't force how he feels. Yes love can be a verb, but to Drew, love is a noun right now. When he tries to make love a verb too soon, it doesn't work out.
Before I close, I'd just like to clarify the difference between not being honest and lying about emotions. When Drew is not being honest with how he feels, he is basically hiding it. When Drew is lying about how he feels, he is trying to force an emotion which is not there. I hope this helps clear up some contradiction between the beginning and this last paragraph.
In conclusion, Drew is quite the guy. Simple on the outside, simple on the inside, but a jumbled up mess in the middle. Figure him out, and you'll have a blast. Don't figure him out and you'll still have some fun. Though this is a bit wordy, I figured Drew deserves a few good words to describe him. But even then, words fail in comparison to an actual human being. You can derive some preconceived notions of Drew from this short essay on Drew, but you won't know or understand him. Heck, I don't know or understand some people I've "known" my entire life, and I've lived with them, not just read about their "Interests & Personality" on some website. So in the end, did you really learn anything about Drew from reading this? Probably not...

Testimonials
"Drew, you are an intense dude." - Stephanie Wilson "The lunch we had together the first real day I was sick was great. You were the best listener that I've encountered in a long time. Even though I spent most of my time complaining about how i felt, you were still worried about me enough to ask at least 3 different times if i was alright, and still managed to be enthusiastic about our time together. You're a great person, Drew, I just wish you'd realize that more." - Latasha McGuire
"First, there are two type of Drew that I see. There's the "I don't know what to say, this is awkward" type and then there's the actually Drew. He comes out when you're telling a story or you're laughing at something really funny. It's like your entire body relaxes and whatever facade you hold up just melts off. That part of you is amazing.don't hide it." - Sandi Bednars
