About Me

Since the year 2000, Black Cat has been serving some of North Carolina’s finest food: Legendary burritos the size of a football, or an abnormally small child. For the majority of those eight years, Black Cat has also been home to some of Boone, North Carolina’s finest live music, drawing both from the fantastic local music scene as well as artists from around the country and around the world. We’ll bring in any kind of music, from metal to bluegrass to gangsta rap to bossa nova, as long as it kicks enough ass, and some of the notable bands featured on our stage over the years include popular national acts such as Old Crow Medicine Show (discovered by Doc Watson a block from our front door), Paleface, Joe Buck (bass player for Hank Williams III), Jucifer and Count Bass D. Black Cat has turned into a standard stop for prominent Americana acts such as the legendary (and now-retired) David Childers, the Rolling Stone-featured Malcolm Holcombe, Woody Pines & the Lonesome Two, Paleface, American Aquarium and several other folks who have found their way into the national and international Americana Top 10 including Dave Desmelik, The Worthless Son-In-Laws and many more. Bands who have played for us have at one time shared the stage or recorded with such acts as The Avett Brothers, The Beastie Boys, Beck, Bela Fleck, Billy Bragg, The Breeders, Crash Test Dummies, Def Leppard, Dr. Dog, Hank Williams III, The Hives, Kanye West, Journey, The Legendary Shack Shakers, Lucinda Williams, the Moldy Peaches, MF Doom, Prefuse 73, Three Doors Down, Regina Spektor, Victor Wooten, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and God-knows-who-else. They’ve been featured in magazines like Rolling Stone, Blender, Spin, Guitar World, Alternative Press and countless others. They’ve played festivals such as Bonnaroo, Vans Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Merle Fest and the Bristol Roots & Rhythm Festival. The first time a group of Chinese rock bands were EVER given the proper visas to allow a US tour, they made stops in New York, Philadelphia and Black Cat. Black Cat has also been made what it is by our immeasurably diverse and talented local music scene, acting as one of the home-court venues for several local bands including Naked Gods (The Village Idiot’s 2007 Album of the Year), Banana da Terra (featured in Global Rhythm Magazine), Mike P. & the bottom line, as well as a slew of incredibly talented artists on the electronic front including Human Pippi Armstrong, DJ Piss, DJ Unpredictabull and DJ Small Wonder. All in all, Black Cat can feature some of the finest and most unique shows you're likely to come across on the NC bar scene. Sometimes our shows end up downright legendary. For a place that holds a little more than 100 folks, we have a legion of genuinely loud, intense and enthusiastic fans who will cheer until they’re hoarse, raising their tall boy PBR cans in the air until the music stops. Black Cat has become one of the favorite stops on tour for more than a handful of the bands that come to play for us and there is definitely no better legal time to be had in Boone than coming by Black Cat and checking out a show. For booking info, either befriend us and send us a message on here, email [email protected] or send a press kit or CD to: Attn: Matt Black Cat 127 S. Depot St. Boone, NC 28607And just for the record, with rare exceptions we stick to Friday and Saturday shows only.
