Laura is a film and television producer and consultant who specializes in multiple forms of Latino media and entertainment. A Juris Doctor degree, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Communications, and an Associate’s Degree in Theatre are among the academic tools Laura utilizes in the film business. Although a law degree could have been her entry to a lucrative career as a trial attorney, Perez chose to “pay her dues†in a world she has always been passionate about; the world of film. She began as a production assistant, hair and make-up artist, and set designer, but rapidly worked her way up into management positions on set.
Although Laura is skilled in the production world of film, she also possesses a strong passion for writing. Her initial writing skills were displayed when she co-wrote the stage play NO MORE EMPTY CHAIRS for The Teen Theatre of Hope (recognized by The National Coalition of Hispanic Health and Human Services Organization). This stage play micro-capsuled the often unspoken struggles of Latino teens and provided positive unconventional solutions and alternatives to confronted issues.
After getting some production experience, Laura merged her writing and film skills to co-write the screenplay and co-produce the feature HARVEST OF REDEMPTION (MALAS FRONTERAS), winner of the 2007 Best Foreign Feature Award at the International Family Film Festival, Hollywood and distributed through BLOCKBUSTER. HARVEST OF REDEMPTION, features the touching true story of a Latino migrant farm worker family and an unpunished murder that they must not only face, but learn to let go.
Laura is the founder and president of ALMA LIBRE FILMS (Free Spirit Films), a development and production company, and co-founder and president of CONVERGE ENTERTAINMENT, a film sales and consulting company. In both of these companies, Laura specializes in Latino themed film content across domestic and global multi-dimensional content distribution platforms.
Laura's background in psychology and law has provided her with unique insight into statistical aspects of the film industry and therefore is well equipped to strategically groom projects, making them adaptable to the current trends of the market.
She was born and raised in the small and quaint Texas border town of Mission to two loving parents who both work in education. She has two brothers and regards her family highest on her priority list. Laura started her film career in Austin, a film community she still strongly supports.
Laura has been a screenplay judge for The American Screenwriter’s Association International Screenplay Competition, Scenarios USA, a consultant and panelist for The CineSol Latin Film Festival, and honored for her contributions as a speaker by The Migrant Students
College Assistance Program.
Other areas: Line Producing, Entertainment Contracts, Script Writing, Adaptation, and Development.

Things I love:
The simple things, a quiet movie theatre, a good cabernet, vitamins, laughing until it hurts, vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, salt, a good workout, Italian architecture, gerbera daisies, the smell of tanning oil, the echoe of an empty stage, watching a falling star.

"Some men see things as they are and say 'Why?' - I dream things that never were and say, 'Why not?'" - George Bernard Shaw
