A nthony O’Neal is the Visionary & CEO of the dynamic Non-Profit organization “Young People Succeeding, Inc. (YPS); which is on its way to uplifting and educating the youth of Jacksonville , FL , Oceanside , CA , & Fayetteville , NC community. Being that 55% of high school freshman tend to fail or dropout, (a fact referenced in the Florida Times Union), with the elaborate plan Mr. O’Neal has, this rate has a strong potential of diminishing. YPS entails enriching minds and securing the lifestyles of young people.

YPS began when Anthony O’Neal, raised in Oceanside, California, found himself entangled in $9,000.00 worth of debt at the tender age of 18 (now 22). He then realized, “the typical young person can fall victim to this type of debt just as well.” As for now, Mr. O’Neal is living debt-free with a savings account and no financial issues. He wants his testimony to be used “as a light to keep others from falling into the same hole and he strongly believes that by catching them at the age of 13-17, we can teach them things that he was not taught and have them accomplish the things he has at a age of 22 by the time they’re 19!

In 2002, he began to focus on getting rid of his debt and decided to create an organization to prevent debt from occurring to other youth. Thus, the birth of YPS- organized in the year of 2003 with seminars in California which remain ongoing today.

YPS, just as any other venture, has been faced with obstacles. Anthony’s age has been one of them. He has been told, “You have no credentials yet.” But he confidently rebuts, “what type of credentials does one need to show 13-18 year olds how to lead a positive life other than being positive myself and leading by example?” He is also reminded of the David versus Goliath story, where David did not have the “worldly credentials to defeat Goliath… but he had the “Favor” and calling of God.

..

Anthony recalls his prior assumption that maintaining a popular image, having the latest material items, and hanging with the “in-crowd” was cool. But in retrospect, “that was all a set back, “he now defines “cool” as purchasing a home by the age of 19,maintaining good credit, having a savings and being your own man or women! YPS is interested in curtailing the learning curve, in which most youth don’t learn the ‘ins and outs’ of life on the right path before they turn 22, they should learn in their teenage years so when they mature to their twenties- they will already be heading in the right direction.

Anthony proudly shares the message of the 6 P’s- something he learned from his stepfather and have incorporated into the YPS curriculum; P roper, P rior, P lanning, P revents, P oor P erformance.

Anthony also emphasizes “if we sew a strong seed into today’s generation, we shall get the generation sewing back into us, “then quotes scripture for Luke 6:38 – Give and it shall be given to you… for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” He is a staunch believer in Proverbs 15:22 scripture: “With out wise counsel plans go wrong, but with many advisors they succeed. “He embraces the saying “You are WHO you are because of WHERE you are… and WHERE you are because of WHO you are!”

Besides building a bright-educated future, the overall objective is to teach the youth entrepreneurial, professional/personal development, business, and leadership skills in conjunction with exciting entertainment. YPS will be formulating a Dance/Step team who will be traveling w/ Mr. O’Neal to speaking engagements and special events local and nationally.

The Non-Profit organization YPS plan for its cities are already impacting the youth and are looking to build its first center in Jacksonville, FL by the end of 2007. YPS has signed a National Spokes Person “Demetrus” a National Gospel Recording Artist Click play to start Let's Dance

The Entrepreneurial Spirit

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back. -Luke 6:38 In the dictionary an entrepreneur is defined as “one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risk of business.”

While the definition is valid, it seems sterile without a reference to the entrepreneurial spirit. When I decided to venture out to start Young People Succeeding, Inc. My thoughts focused on Noah’s faith in God when he built the ark. Genesis 6:13-16 describe God telling Noah that he would destroy all flesh because the earth was filled with violence. Then God instructed Noah to build an ark measuring 300 cubits in length, or about 450 feet. Imagine how much Noah had to trust God to take on such task.

Starting my own Non-Profit organization for young people was a small task compared to Noah’s, but the fact is that both Noah and I stepped out on faith knowing that this is what God had commanded me to do. I was asked by a lot of people what do you know about running your own business? When you have ambition, people tend to ridicule you; they become vocal about why you should not attempt to pursue your dream. Few have the same belief in you that you have in yourself. There will always be someone who wants to rain on your parade, but an entrepreneur can’t be swayed by the other people’s standard. Don’t let them put you into a box. I quickly learned to throw conventional wisdom out the window, knowing that what the world thinks is wise, God thinks is foolish!

When I think of the Entrepreneurial Spirit I think of 6:38, Christ says: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” I live my life by these words. My main objective in business is not driven by how much money I may make. I seek to serve and give to the youth & young adults. In business, my biggest job as CEO and Founder of Young People Succeeding, Inc is to serve God, My Staff and the Youth/Young Adults with in the community. I strive to nurture service and commitment to others, an attitude that places others before me. A true entrepreneurial spirit has the desire to serve others, “Servitude epitomizes the entrepreneurial spirit.”

Adapting To Change & Accepting The Process

H ave you ever looked at the universe that our God created? A universe that is constantly changing. The galaxies, stars, and planets are in a state of perpetual motion-vast bodies that never remain still. Our planet revolves around the sun, day is followed by night, and seasons come and go.

Life itself is about change and process. From conception to birth through many years to death, our bodies and minds continually change. Similarly, each day differs from the pervious day. Change is a natural condition for every fact of our lives.

I view change as one of the wonders of life. If every day were a duplicate of my preceding day, life would indeed be meaningless, would you agree? Change is what makes my life interesting – it’s always something new. If you sit back and look at it, change is what keeps the media industry in business. Without it there would be nothing to report on the nightly news and in the daily newspaper.

Although we live in a new Generation, many people have a tendency to resist change and the process of the change. Why? Because we must venture into the unknown, which requires risk-taking. It takes faith to venture into the unknown, some of you reading this will say that… I am not willing to step outside of what is comfortable and take a risk at something that I do not know the outcome to!

When I first started Young People Succeeding, Inc. I was nervous because here I am a young African American 19 year old male with no degree, working for ARS National Services a collections company with know idea of the ends and out of running a business but I had two things – Faith & Vision. We are taught with in our school system to believe in what we see rather than what we don’t see. If I would have stuck with that teaching than I would not be were I am today, I would have seen the guaranteed paycheck every two weeks and forgot about running my business because there is no guarantee income.

That is living by fact not by truth… Yes it may be fact that I will have a pay check every two weeks but the truth is that if I had faith in my vision and worked toward my vision then I can generate 5 paychecks or more with in a month! Better said “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith and Vision require patience because great change does not come over night, spiritually we are reminded that “faith and hard work get the best results. You must reinforce your belief with hard work”

My hope for a brighter future and my courage to venture out to start Young People Succeeding, Inc. hinged all on my faith. I firmly believe that “God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power” These words removed any fears or self-doubt I might have possessed. It was clear in my mind that my vision, together with the desire to enrich the Mind, Spirit & Lifestyles of Young People, meant I was destined to succeed.

I encourage you if you want to succeed in life, allow change. Bruce Barton – A renowned advertising executive said: “Keep changing. When you’re through changing you’re through.”

Change is healthy; do not be afraid to step into the unknown for the unknown once you step into it will be the “known” and no longer the unknown.
