DJ Complex: Like Visa, everywhere you want to be!

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

DJ Complex, originally from NY and of (Bajan) Barbadian descent, now living in Philadelphia, has been tearing up dancefloors for over 14 years. This traveling circus is known as the "One Man Army" spinning everything from Reggae, Hip Hop, Soca, R&B and classics."It started out as a hobby, I would use my dad's old records and see if I could make Bob Marley and Luther Vandross blend and mix!!" Back in 1993, it became a more serious thing, when friends and family from the neighborhood started requesting mixtapes, then djing at parties in High School. "I used to hang out at VP records on Jamaica Ave, Super Power records in Brooklyn" and carry record crates for Tecniques disco, Baby Wayne Sound, and Addies in Queens at the "Q club" and Crystal's".From 1996 he would then be opening up for De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, and the Fugees at concerts at Boston College and also on the radio (WZBC). In 1999, when he moved to California, he decided to take it to the clubs in San Francisco and Oakland. It was then that he teamed with Ms. Maya and Patsy, and formed Jouvay.com (a caribbean entertainment promotions company), and the sound system King Solomon Sound. Soon, he would be opening for most of the big name Reggae and Soca artists that came to the area (Elephant Man, Sean Paul, Spragga Benz, Black Chiney, Stonelove, Back2Basics (NY), Tony Tempo (ATL), Alison Hinds and Square One, and Rupee). Not wanting to be branded as just a reggae and soca power house, Complex took his work to the streets, and switched up his style and started djing at Hip Hop clubs in LA and in Las Vegas spinning both Hip Hop and Reggae to show his versatility. In 2004 he spun at a few different clubs in Cancun, Mexico for Memorial Day Weekend's Cancun Jumpoff (www.cancunjumpoff.com). Steady on the move, Complex still holds it down in the bay area and abroad. (London in 2007) He was influenced growing up in NYC by Dj's Red Alert, Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, DJ Clue, Bobby Konders, Biz Markie, Ed Lover and Dr Dre (who is also from Westbury, LI), Dahved Levy, WLIB, Super Cat, Shabba Ranks and a host of others. Here is a list of clubs you may have seen Complex:San Francisco - Ruby Skye, Whisper, Paradise Lounge, Loft 11, Studio Z, DNA Lounge, The Factory, Rawhide, Luna Lounge, Element Lounge, Jillians's, Ganesh, Amnesia, Club 6, The Endup (Reggae Gold), Space 550, Club Bas, Blind Tiger, Chi Chi (Now Dolce), Club NV, Kelly's Mission Rock, Jelly's, 330 Ritch, Club Q, Fluid, and the Velvet Lounge.Oakland - Mingles, Luka Lounge, Shattuck Down Low, Simone's, Bluesville, On Broadway, Pat's, @17th, Geoffrey's Inner Circle, Maxwell's, The Oasis, The Rex.Boston - Avalon, Paradise, Axis, Bill's Bar, Europa.Los Angeles - Las Plamas, White Lotus, Joseph's Cafe.Las Vegas - House of Blues, SRO, RumJungle, Planet Hollywood.CanCun - CocoBongo's, DaddyO's, Bulldog Cafe, Slices.Big up all West Indian Massive around the globe.
