CHARLESTON, S.C. - Fire swept through a furniture warehouse, collapsing its roof and killing nine firefighters inside — the nation’s deadliest single disaster for firefighters since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.“Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties,” Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley said at a morning news conference. “To all of their loved ones, our heart goes out to them.”**************************************************** *******************It is not everyday that we reflect on the positive things in life. My job has it's highs and lows, so often we see death and destruction, and occasionally we see the smiles of people who we helped when nobody else could. We do it because we love it, we love those times where we see the joy and appreciation of complete strangers. We love the "Brotherhood" that only we understand. Christmas is a perfect time to thank God for His many blessings. It is a time to thank our Brothers for "backing me up when it really counts", for listening to my problems, to sharing my joys, to covering my shift when I need it and always being there. Christmas is also the perfect time to thank our Family outside the Firehouse, those that have been there for us our whole lives. Those that understand why I am at work on Christmas Day instead of at home. Those that don't complain when we have to open presents a day early, and those who listen to my stories when I come home, comforting me when I need it and laughing when the time is right. To all of you in my life, Thankyou. Friends growing up, Family and Brothers and Sisters in Emergency Services, You know who you are. Amy Elizabeth was born 7/24/06 healthy and happy. God has blessed us again:)I'm a easy going, hard working country boy at heart. Very family oriented, love spending time with the people I care about and would do anything for them. Yeah I'm from good old Hunterdon County and proud of it. The boys at the fire house don't let me forget it that I'm a country boy either:) I love and value the great family I was blessed with. God has been very good to our family, which I couldn't be more grateful for. Cannot say enough about my friends also. To know that they are always there for me no matter what, is so reassuring.I have learned so much in the past few months. Just when you think that you have even the slightest bit of control of your life, you get thrown some crazy curves. I know that the Man Upstairs is in complete control, and that is what helps keep life in perspective. Sometimes what you think you want is completely the opposite from what is BEST for you. If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don't, they never were. A wise man once told me that "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayer". Oh...ok...yeah good talk, seeya on the field:)
