The Deep South

About Me

Formed in the early part of this century, the Deep South String Band was the result of joining together a few hillbillies, a selective amount of talent, and a great passion for bluegrass. Jeff Flaim, Micah Panzich, Toby Geye and Troy Stephens are all friends from the same Southern California neighborhood. There they spent many a days and evenings together at bars, backyards, and barbeques before they came to the realization that they all had a draw to the old time American sound that shaped the future of modern music. Although they call Long Beach home, these boys have found their musical roots in the sweet sounds of the old South. To this day, the Deep South continues to build on their joy of bluegrass, honing their talents at the Doll Hut, Que Sera, The Pike, the Red Barn, the Cubicle Farm, the Grand Ole Miramar, and the now-defunked Wood Shed.

Influences: Doc Watson. Bill Monroe. Larry Sparks. Flatt & Scruggs. The Stanley Brothers. Johnny Cash. George Jones. Waylon Jennings. Merle Haggard. Old Crow Medicine Show. King Wilkie. . . . AC/DC.
Sounds Like: The Deep South sound ultimately depends on how much whiskey the listener has consumed. Typically, the sound has a heavy old-time bluegrass style, with a twang of classic country'n'western. Nuthin' much else sounds like the Deep South comin' outta Long Beach.
