The Broken River Prophet

Perfecting obscurity since 1994

About Me

The origins of the prophethood began in one fellow's imagination and sometimes at his house, many years ago with waltzy banjo dirges and cassette tape manipulations. During lulls in his other musical activites (Lockrgroove, Tiny Amps, Shenzou 5) his path crossed with others whose philosophies, song fragments, distortion pedals, and various and sundry items could be combined and expounded upon. Time would pass, trajectories would alter or intersect, new collaborations would mutate exisiting sounds into something new and so on and so forth until we arrive at the current incarnation...

"Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly." -Franz Kafka

"Allston's most freewheelin' purveyors of overmedicated Americana."-The Weekly Dig
The music of The Broken River Prophet incorporates (among other things) mandolin, 12-string, lap steel, boy/girl vocals, and a vast archive of effects pedals to summon elements of old timey loss, pastoral harmonies, hypnotic drones and cataclysmic fuzz-tones.
"Broken River Prophet saved the night. These guys look like if you saw them on the street, you would think they worked in a comic-book store. Then they melted our faces with their high voltage rock. I mean awesome. They looked and sounded like if Kevin Shields rocked out like J. Mascis."-xMILKx
