Mind Over Malice: The History
Formed in 2006, Mind Over Malice is a 5 piece metal band based in the Hartford, CT area. It all started when two former members of Strained Existence (Mike Malice and J. Kelly) decided to start fresh with new members and a new focus. The lineup was almost finalized in the summer of '06 with the addition of Joe Pastore on vocals, but the band lost both their bassist and 2nd guitar player to moves. Their first thought was to give Big Metal Mike (formerly of Blight) a call to see if he would be interested in playing guitar for the band, and after a few jam sessions, he accepted the position. Some difficulty followed in the search for a bassist that really fit into what we wanted to do. After former bassist Rob Kraft left the band Mind Over Malice played a few shows as a four piece and some with a fill in bass player. Finally the opportunity arose to invite our close friend Joel to complete the lineup and make Mind Over Malice the brutal machine we are today. Each member brings his own influences to the mix, creating a hard-hitting and versatile sound.
Mind Over Malice: The Concept
Many bands out there today come up with names that hold no inherent meaning, but simply have an aggressive nature to fit into the metal scheme. When discussing what the band name should be, Mike Malice had a concept of the band overcoming extreme adversity, suffering, anger, hatred, and negativity with powerful and intense music. In a world where its increasingly easy to falter and succumb to the malicious bullshit the world throws at you, you have to stand up and rise above it all.
