About Me
I'm Emily.
I love plants, especially trees, cacti and vines. Wildflowers will capture my attention as well. I love tall grass, and lying in it at sunset with a drink in my hand will leave me content. I have a strong interest in natural history. This ties in well with my love of plants and animals. Fruit is one of my favourite food pleasures on the planet-- dragonfruit, raspberries, peaches...
I am a trailblazer and an adventurer, and I've been that way my whole life. I love to explore. I recently took up rock climbing. So far I've only climbed indoors, but I really enjoy it. There is something about the body awareness you uncover, the balance you discover. I ride horses and compete in dressage. I really enjoy working with young horses and training them, and I trained my own horse (Nina, aka Conqueda de Alcazar, a Spanish Andalusian/Thoroughbred cross) from the ground up, and we taught each other a lot along the way.
Autumn is my favourite season. When I was younger I used to climb apple trees and steal the crisp, sunbathed fruit, or pick blackberries during this time. It reminds me of cool air and warm colors, among other things. Many of my favourite memories occured during late summer and early autumn.
I love birds! Wild or domestic, I love them all. I own 2 cockatiels who chew up everything I own and remind me of dinosaurs. They're cute.
I also like the arctic. At one point I wanted to be an arctic biologist, but I hate cold and snow so that would not be a smart career choice. Still, there is a place in my heart for the caribou, lichens, icefields and the last of the great wilderness.
The forest is a special place for me. Moss, rotting wood, dirt paths, fungi, dark shadows, birds in the trees. Memories.
My parents raised me to enjoy the outdoors and take advantage of what it has to offer. As a result, I like being out in the wilderness. I enjoy hiking and backpacking, and I am well-practiced in backcountry survival. One day I would like to compete in an adventure race, but I'm nowhere near ready for that yet.
My indulgences would be coffee, tea, espresso and dark chocolate. And red wine.
Dance is something that has trailed me through life. I am by no means good at it, but it is a source of great comedy to me, and I have taken various dance classes over the years. I also used to go to a lot of raves.
I am largely self-taught. Most of my hobbies/interests/pursuits are things that roused my curiousity, and consequently I taught myself how to do them. I even taught myself Welsh, though I've forgotten most of it now.
I am a kayaker. It's peaceful out there on the water, and I like the solitude and escape. Ironically, I am terrified of water that is any deeper than 2 (maybe 3) feet. One of these days I'd like to try river kayaking, because I think I'd like it.Some of my other "likes":
medicine and healing, apothecary, , touch and my sense thereof, lakes/oceans/rivers/ponds (I am terrified of them, but love them all the same), strength and endurance, rain, lying in the wet grass and waiting out the storm, the stars and the night sky, lumberjacks, log scaling, chainsaws, thunderstorms, writing of all kinds, fountain pens, books, reading, learning, hairspray, makeup, paint, glitter, bringing fantasy to life/playing the role of someone else, acting/improv, brass buckles, boots and shoes, coats, belts, detail (especially when it pertains to clothing), comfort and warmth, spontaneousness, observation, sunlight, art in all it's forms, graffiti, photography and cameras (pertaining to other people, as I myself prefer to use words as my medium and cameras hate me), spirits (I mean liquor, silly), blood, muscle, bone, telescopes, cars, driving, road trips, car surfing, the west coast, beaches, freedom, serenity, the fighting arts, love and lust, teeth, feathers, nature documentaries, sunrise, costume, dirt, poverty.
