I am 40 yrs old now & was originally born down in Jefferson County, Alabama. I have lived also before in Bethesda, MD for a while before my dad's mom got very sick & needed us to move into the big 2-story house with her there in Norfolk, VA. I then lived there with my parents along with my sister that is 4 yrs younger is then me in the big house. I went to public school until my dad put us into many different private schools. Then eventually pulled us out when I reached high school level & put us back into the public schools. I graduated Granby High school in 1987. I was there at the high school from 1983-1987. I was on the girls track team in 1984 & have a 1st place relay trophy here from when we got first place. I was also in girl scouts from the brownie level all the way up until senior level. I eventually had to get our of girl scouts since with horse back riding it was getting to expensive for the English style riding & learning how to do the jumps. I was also in the International Order of Job's Daughter's & a Past Honored Queen of Bethel 3 in Norfolk, VA. I am also a past reprasentive to Ontario, Canada. My sister also is a Past Honored Queen & I have two cousins that are also Past Honored Queens. I have been married here for almost 18 yrs to a man that has 11 yrs active duty in the Navy & now 10 yrs in the Navy Reserves. We have only one daughter thatwas in School at Monrovia High School for 4 yrs & graduated on June 16th, 2009. She was also in the High School Marching band for the full 4 yrs. She can play the flute, clarinet, Oboe, bells, piccolo & also started taking classes to learn how to play the Guitar. She's going to attend a local college here Citrus which is only a couple towns away from where we live at. I met my husband when he was stationed over in VA on a ship & we have been living over here in CA now since 1991 when he was stationed down in San Diego County. I have had Epilepsy since I was 5 1/2 yrs old & just never out grew it like the doctors told my parents it might happen. I have taken just about every seizure medication that is on the market except for the fairly newer ones that came out within the last 6-7 yrs. I've had 3 surgery's done here & with having them done it's cut my seizure's down to almost none but I do have some once in a while depending on how stressed out I get. I had the first brain surgery done here in 1995 at USC on the Right Temporal lobe area in the front area. Before having, the first brain surgery done I also had to have a year worth of testing done. I had to have test like cat-scans done, Mri testing, EEG testing with the little cables glued to my head. I also had to have the EEG cables in-planted into my head, so that the doctors could make sure they pinpointed where my seizure were coming from. Seizures did not come back until almost 6 month's after the surgery. Then when my insurance changed, I was sent by the new Neurologist to see a surgeon & specialist over in Pasadena to see what they thought about the seizures. Between what the specialist & surgeon saw of the seizures they both said that the surgery could be done once again. I had to have another year worth of testing done before having surgery, but the surgery was done. The surgery was done the second time in 2003 in Pasadena at Huntington Memorial & still on the Right temporal lobe area, but in the back area this time. The seizures where cut back even more, but I still have them. I searched to see if another one could be done, but the surgeon did not advise of another brain surgery. He suggested having the Vagus Nerve Stimulator implanted instead to control the seizures. I had that implanted the next year 2004 has an outpatient & the VNS is good anywhere for 10-11 yrs depending on how much the battery is used up. Since that was implanted, I now have at the most 2-4 seizures a month & sometimes I do not have any at all. It just depends in how stressed out I get that's all or if anyone is here to see a seizure. Ever since I've had all 3 surgery's done now, I don't know when I have a seizure anymore since I lost the hot feeling I would get on the ear to let me know if I was going to have one or the shaking on my hands. Therefore, it does me no good to carry the magnet to use on the VNS at all with me & just let the VNS catch it on it is on. I take two seizure medications right now one is 200 mg Topamax 1 pill 2 times a day. I also take the 400 mg Felbatol 2 1/2 pills 2 times a day. I have to take a One a Day Vitamin 1 pill in the morning, Os-Cal Vitamin D+ 500 mg 2 at noon, & Folic Acid 1 mg 4 of them in the morning & I also take the Omega 3 Fish Oil pill that's 1200 mg. So, has you can tell I take many medications, but not has much in seizure medications.
From my family History I know that on my dad's side I have Scotch/Welch. Then from my mom's side of the family I have Cherokee Indian. My Husband is Originally from England, so you can just see what ind of attitude our daughter has. Right now my mom's sister's are trying to find out if they're dad was full blown Cherokee Indian or how much Indian he had in him, so that if he was then there's some way if he was then we have a chance to register also has Indian even if it's a certain percentage we have of it in us we can.
