Motherless Cowboys are from across Utah. The current line up of members are Nathan Olpin (guitarist and song-writer) Britt Nielson (vocals and song- writer) Ryan Hawthorn (lead guitar) Brandt Bodily (bass) and Troy Heiland on(drums).
We have been working on and just released our new ep "La Verace Via". This is a collection of songs that we enjoy playing and reflect our current state of mind. Brandt worked night and day to record this album and make sure our levels and keys and sounds were just right. This cd was mastered by Mjchillz studios. We have been playing around SLC lately. Most recently at Pat's BBQ, accoustic style.
We have had the pleasure of opening up for such acts as Richmond Fontaine out of Portland, Oregon. Dicky Betts, one of the highlights of our music career. Check out our photo of this night.Our good friend and previous drummer Chuck Sanich, Ryan Hawthorn and Britt smiling ear to ear with Dicky.
Another great night was opening up for North Missippi Allstars, and Luther sat in with us for "edge of the forest" with some rocking leads, burning down the house. We have also opened up for James Mcmurtry, Jonatha Brooke, Shawn Colvin, The JackMormons, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, Reckless Kelly, and many more.
Our music features the great song-writing of Nathan Olpin, who without having lived such a rich and pain-filled life, we would not have such a diverse and soulful sound. Add to that the rich vocal sound of Britt Nielson and her interesting life experiences and songwriting, add an ecclectic mix of indie-rock, slightly alternative, folk jam rock. The guy with the wings is Ryan Hawthorn and he makes our music soar. Whenever Nate and Britt play by themselves, Britt is always trying to "sing" Ryans parts to fill up the sound. Then we add the thumping bass lines of Brandt Bodily, who also keeps on tune, on key and on tempo. Finally, Troy Heiland helps us start the songs on-tempo, end the songs on time and generally keeps us rockin' all the way home.
We love playing music and this is the way we are able to stay sane and focus on the real and true meaning for our lives. That is where we came in with the new ep title- "la verace via" from the Divine Comedy. Which means true path. We try to follow this path of our soul. But sometimes life, money-makin', kids, wifes, ex-wifes and troubles get in the way. So keep on listening to us bleed our heart and soul into our music and hanging on for dear life to this ride we call life.
