NOTE: You can add me as a friend even if you don't know me; I just put up that thing requesting my e-mail to ward off bots. My e-mail address is [email protected]
Anyway, hi, I'm Andy Jones. I currently live in Evansville, IN, attend University of Southern Indiana as a creative writing major, and...don't work at the moment. I write music, poetry, cartoon strips (for artists that say they will draw them and never do), and whatever I need to for school, which includes a lot of literary analyses. After school, I'll either succeed with a career in creative writing, or music, or something else (I wouldn't mind writing video games); or, more likely, teach something.
I use My Space to meet people and keep in touch with people, as well as a poor attempt to distribute my music and writing. If you want to add me, and you aren't a bot, then that's cool, but I might delete you if we don't ever talk. Nothing personal, just saves bulletin space.
I'm a pretty shy person, and tend to be awkward in social situations. Still, I greatly value relationships with people, and enjoy spending with them.
That should give you a general idea of what you've gotten yourself into by clicking on this page, but if you're still interested, you might find these things worth reading:
I am somewhat interested in politics, and tend to be pretty leftist in terms of political orientation. Most of the beliefs I am particularly passionate about have to do with simple matters of human rights and equal opportunity; I believe the ultimate goal of the human race should be the complete elimination of hierarchical structures, even if that isn't a plausible goal now. I think we should work toward that goal, and we can at least end up in a better situation. I think there are still serious problems in America, and the rest of the world, for that matter, with sexism, racism, homophobia, and segregation, and I think, in America, a large part of this stems from anti-intellectualism. Patriotism, in its purest form, is one of the few things I would, without hesitation, label as evil.
As for religion, I used to consider myself Christian (then agnostic, then atheist, then Christian again, but that's a long story), but I've become pretty agnostic, and largely nontheistic in my approach to the world. My spiritual comforts come from the imagination, and the phenomenon of fiction (a term I use loosely to refer to most artistic constructs). I don't feel that religion is necessarily a bad thing, but too often it leads to oppression. The thing is, a lot of religious people have replace logic with faith, and use that model to make decisions of right and wrong. This can and does lead to a variety of oppression, ranging from discrimination (for example, of gays and lesbians) to more mundane, but no less signficant, forms of oppression such as parents telling their children that normal parts of sexual development (i.e. , masturbation) are sinful.
I am engaging in a range of one to several fragmentary, seldom completed projects at any given moment, but lately it is the development of the conceptual hip-hop group 'The Funky Spirits,' which includes myself, a few friends, and a few alter-egos making hip-hop music and establishing a set of funk mythos that is ghost-themed. I like ghosts. :)
