Three short city blocks from the Pacific Ocean and one block off Santa Monica’s world-famous Promenade, there is a special little place where folks have been making music for over thirty years.
In its first incarnation, this place was a recording studio called Sound Solutions, with clients that included Little Richard, George Clinton, Stanley Clarke, and the Beach Boys
In 1989, Kathleen and Jim Wirt bought the studio and renamed it 4th Street Recording. “I’ve recorded in studios all over the world,†said Gary Myrick, an early client, “and I am sick of studios that feel like doctor’s offices, bus stations, or spaceships.†Kathleen agreed and put velvet on the walls, then began replacing the ugly utilitarian furniture with custom designed pieces and antiques. Artists loved the trippy vibe, saying it made them feel comfortable and creative. Nineteen years later, you will hear people say they love 4th Street for many reasons -- its sound design, the location, our people – but the most frequent compliment is, “I feel really good here.â€
Check our website for a client list, including No Doubt, Nelly Furtado, CKY, Live, Shelby Lynne, Alice Cooper, Billy Preston, Rob Zombie, and Lisa Loeb. Our voice over clients have included Richard Gere, Anthony Hopkins, James Doohan, Eddie Albert, Ed Asner, Sean Young, and Ron Kovick.
4th Street Recording feels like a cozy home in a friendly little beach town, but offers all the big city benefits of Santa Monica’s Bayside District, an extended pedestrian area complete with shops, theaters, and street musicians. Clients can order out from dozens of restaurants and choose from a wide range of accommodations, from motels to hotels to monthly corporate rentals in local bungalows. And, as we always say, “if you don’t take a walk down to the ocean at sunset, you’re not using the full facility.â€
