Betsy Badwater is an outfit all about exploring Americana tradition through a fusion of country, blues, folk, rockabilly, and high-lonesome mountain-style lyric, vocal, and instrumentation. Betsy plays a "freakish bassy-badass-of-a-guitar-with-tentacles" recently Frankensteined-up by Mr. D.Anson Brody to accommodate Betsy's playing style (it's hard to say whether she or the guitar takes more punishment when she gets going), and a tambo/kick-drum combo (mostly to keep her from stomping through the floor -which also happens from time to time).
Betsy comes from backwoods half-preacher and half-outlaw kin and learned to sing high-lonesome in Primitive Baptist churches. Her tonky, big-handed, two-finger/thumb guitar style is a direct result of learning clawhammer-syle banjo rolls from her daddy at 11, and then teaching herself guitar based on banjo technique.
Betsy's kind of a dark character; a little too shameless to fret over being just a naturally creatively wicked person, and much to audacious to leave well enough alone. The extremes of all human experience are the inspirations for her songs, and interestingly, men identify with and appreciate Betsy Badwater tunes as much, if not more, than women do. Likewise, Badwater music is appreciated by all ages and demographics with it's lyrical and stylistic range delivered with extremely strong and confident vocals....
Betsy just returned from touring Florida, Texas & North Carolina with D. Anson Brody (http://www.myspace.com/dansonbrody) and is now finishing recording her first 13 song solo album entitled: "Tales of the Wayward," to be published by "The Bossman" Andrew R. Trull's Rebar Records & Head Rooster Entertainment.
Two more Betsy Badwater collections are written and awaiting recording. The second collection will be from the brighter side of Badwater; an infectious, super groovable, danceable hillbilly hoe-down for these depressing times with all instrumentation performed by Betsy, herself. The third collection is hidden neatly behind the curtain. Come see a show to get a preview!
