Hip Hop Summit 09

About Me

On February 19, 2009, The University of Alabama will be hosting its 4th annual Hip Hop Summit entitled, “HIP HOP SUMMIT ’09: EXPRESSING THE NATION”, at 8:00pm in the Ferguson Center Student Union. This year, the focus is national and international hip hop culture. The Hip Hop Summit was developed to promote a positive awareness of Hip Hop, as a culture and not as a state of mind. It encourages students and community members to broaden their perspectives and to increase their respect for hip hop and its history. Through its various forums and lectures, The Summit has been able to break many barriers surrounding the culture of hip hop, in the last three years. Tracy Morris, Toni Blackman, and Daniel Bernard Romain were some of our most notable panelists, lecturers and performers. The educational impact of The Summit has empowered students to become more academically involved. For example, several students at various institutions are now involved in grant writing projects, research proposals, and independent studies projects all related to hip hop culture. In addition The Summit’s overwhelming popularity and growth, we are now able to support the pursuit of college by offer book and academic scholarships to prospective students who participate and attend the Hip Hop Summit.
