The Chinch Bugs

About Me

The Chinch Bugs are a band from Minneapolis Minnesota that formed in October of 2003. The band is composed of 4 former members of a group called the Sandwiches (1995-99). Feel free to let us know who we sound like, 'cause we're not exactly sure. Some form of QUIRKY pop rock? Our latest album "Unglued" is available at cdbaby.com, among other places. We were lucky enough this time to have guest appearances from Joey Molland (Badfinger) and Brian Tighe (The Hang Ups and The Owls). ............................................................ ...... PRESS (Published reviews of "Unglued")"...airy, upbeat tunes...a light touch of class and radio hooks galore." Jim Meyer, Minnesota Monthly November, 2006................................"The tunes on Unglued sound similar to some of the best underground guitar/keyboard pop bands from the 1980's... in a world full of phony artists... this band's music is truly refreshing." LMNOP® Reviews, babysue.com - September 2006 ....................................."The Chinch Bugs have followed up their debut album with a collection of songs that are easy on the ears and refreshingly fun...it seems that going back to basics has helped the Chinch Bugs to refine their sound and claim it as their own." Andrea Myers, PULSE of the Twin Cities- August 24, 2006.............................."It's rompy ... is that a word? I don't know, but it feels like the right word to describe The Chinch Bugs' "Unglued." This is their sophomore effort and the bio promises the 'songs on "Unglued" are sometimes bright, often quirky, even frightening – but ultimately catchy.' That's a lot to live up too, so I wonder as I popped in the disc will they live up to it? Sure enough, it's rompy, which by my definition, embodies those qualities The Chinch Bugs claim. For the most part, it's bounce up and down, good time rock with just a touch of melancholy here are there on some tracks – and I can dig it.""What I truly think is cool about The Chinch Bugs is their musical line-up, which includes your standard guitars, drums, keys, but there's also an oboe and there's nothing quite like some oboe rock. Also, the ratio of women to men in the group is three to one, which is never bad. "Revenge of the Clone" is a personal favorite on the 12-track disc, with its spooky keyboard part. Also, "Gazongas VI" with its Jonathan Richman vibe is very sassy. I think this disc is going to find its way onto my iPod, where rompy discs I like go to live." Nelson Heise, RIFT Magazine Issue 19, November 2006
