Austin School of Music

For the past 11 years, ASM has been an important part of the Austin music community. Over 2000 students take lessons at the Austin School of Music every week, and the family is growing larger every day. ASM students are taught by top Austin musicians who teach them to play the music that they want to play - and they have a great time doing it.The Austin School of Music offers instruction from well-known Austin musicians like Van Wilks, Kevin McKinney, Darin Murphy, Glenn Rexach and Rich Harney. ASM teachers perform with Austin greats Bob Schneider, Redd Volkaert, Soulhat, Double Trouble, Austin Lounge Lizards, Trish Murphy, Patrice Pike, Two Hoots and a Hollar, Asylum Street Spankers, Monster Big Band, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison and the K-Tel Hit Machine, to name just a few. The real-world education that these working musicians bring to their teaching at ASM is invaluable!Owner of ASM, Dave Sebree (guitarist/ producer/ bandleader), started things off small on 5th Street back in 1995 with only 10 rooms and 8 teachers. In 2001, the School outgrew its original location and moved to its current home at Ben White/ S. Lamar, sharing the building and a great relationship with Strait Music, an Austin institution since 1963. ASM South has 22 teaching studios, 36 instructors, and a Recital Hall for performances. ASM Studios, also at ASM South, is an acoustically designed surround sound analog and digital recording studio. ASM Studios has recorded and mixed CDs and DVDs for Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Hiatt, Los Lonely Boys, Merle Haggard, Marcia Ball and many more.The Austin School of Music expanded into the North Austin (620 & 183) area as well, and in January 2005 opened a new location with 12 teaching studios, 15 instructors, and a Recital Hall for performances.Also at the Austin School of Music is one of the countries’ top summer camps, Rock Camp USA. Offered in cities countrywide, Rock Camp USA is the only camp where kids record a CD in a top studio, perform live in a world famous venue and get a multi-tracked and professionally edited DVD of the show.If you’re not already a part of the Austin School of Music family, come on down and say hello.
