Spare a dollar, stranger? Here's some free music. Could you part with some change? We'll sing you to sleep. We just need a few bucks to fill up the tour van. And yes, as you know, the gas isn't cheap.
Our goal is simple. We want to make music. We want it to make it for you, our lovely fans. We don't expect to sell one million records, win any MTV awards, or make cameo appearances in Lindsay Lohan movies. As a small band from the middle of nowhere, we realize that none of those things may ever happen. Nor do we necessarily want any of those things to happen. We don't care about the money or the popularity. We love making music. And as long as there is an audience for what we create, we will continue to create it. Whether it's for 50 fans or 50,000 fans, the band HARVEY will still be around for you all to enjoy. This is our promise.
Every year since our formation in 2004, we have released a new album. Each album was funded partly with money we made playing shows, selling t-shirts and other merchandise, and some generous donations from our amazing families. BUT- most of the money came from our own pockets (which is NOT a complaint).
During the four years we have been together, we have all been in and out of college, working crappy minimum-wage jobs, struggling to pay the bills, and playing shows whenever possible. As you can imagine, scraping together enough time and cash to record a new album requires patience. That's why we've only made four 5 song EPs in four long years. We would love to make a new full-length album every 3 months if we could! But until Justin Timberlake hands us a check for one million dollars, that's not going to happen.
BUT WAIT-what if our fans would be willing to help us out? You know, just a little? What if EACH and EVERY one of our fans donated just 25 CENTS?
According to our myspace, we have about 15,000 fans. 15,000 quarters make $3,750! Our last album only cost $1,700!
What about ONE DOLLAR each?
That's $15,000! That's enough money to record a full-length album, Give it to EVERYONE for free, go on tour for 2 months all over the country, and play shows for each and every one of you. For ONE DOLLAR. You wouldn't even have to pay to get in at the show. That would be RAD.
Of course, if we can't expect to be in Lindsay Lohan movies, we certainly can't expect each of our fans to send us a dollar in the mail. But if only 5 percent of our fans donated $5, we could make a kick-ass album for the WHOLE WORLD.
So if you're listening to our newest EP "EARTHWORMS" as you're reading this, and you LIKE it, it would be awesome if you could donate a quarter. Or a dollar. Or whatever spare change you might have lying around.
