The long history of onthedust.com traces back to the Winter of 1998, when Nullsoft (the makers of the popular MP3 player, Winamp) developed this free streaming MP3 technology, SHOUTcast. thus the dust was born we were an amateur radio show that played the hottest songs, a one-of-a-kind CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) station that plays a mix of everything. Lots of things happened after that in the Internet Radio industry, like Nullsoft and Spinner being acquired by AOL, RadioSpy's failed attempt in Internet Radio with MP3Spy, Napster's skyrocketing popularity, MP3 players coming out for the first time, programs such as Kerbango and iM Tuner hitting the market, etc. OTD was up for a major change too. In the fall of 1999, OTD started broadcasting 24/7 on a cable modem. While that still didn't support many listeners, it was sufficient for OTD to start growing. .
