The Barnacles

Nothing's a fortune when you're walking alone....

About Me

The Barnacles are one of the hardest working bands you've never heard of. This quartet of multi-talented, working-class, linguistically gifted individuals has created a catalogue of albums that, while flying under the radar, have garnered some praise in Saint Louis and the rest of the United States, and abroad. The Barnacles consist of their guitarsenal: Brian Olen Kiøus and Casey Wollberg, and the mighty rhythm section: Randy Belt and Steve Meyers. All venture off into instrumental experimentation as well. The quartet draw from personal experiences, stream of consciousness, and their vast collective of influences ranging from The Beatles to the Flaming Lips.Their first album was the all-acoustic WIRELESS which was released in late summer 2001. It features two fan favourites, the passionate "Crazy For You Now" and the infectious and easily memorable "Amy's Song (Buy you a Cabriolet)." The follow-up was the critically acclaimed INLAND & OTHERWISE. It has more of a loose, free, jammy feeling. "Third Degree Burn" has been described by many as an "instant number 1." "True", another single is a delicate tip of the hat to Gordon Lightfoot with some Supertramp style harmonica. The farthest reaching single would have to be "Arizona Tonight" which took the Barnacles to Belgium, Brazil, Australia, and Canada. Widespread airplay made "Arizona Tonight" and INLAND & OTHERWISE a college campus favourite in the winter of 2002-2003.Following a moment of recording silence to tour and live life outside the band, the Barnacles returned to release C.Q.D. in October 2007. Promotions are just now beginning, but we're sure it will be every bit as well-received as its' predecessors and maybe moreso as two of the songs were released to the web in 2005. "Punctuated" and "Birmingham New Street" have both received a warm welcome. As for the other tracks, they display the Barnacles in a new light as they plug in and turn up the volume. What lay ahead for Randy, Brian, Steve, and Casey? Who knows? But the ride is going to be fun! Stay tuned as bootleg demos and recordings are issued here straight from the band's rehearsals and studio time to you! Also remember that the three official albums can be purchased for download on iTunes and Rhapsody as well as other digital music stores!
