About Me

Shawn-Aileen Clark came to New York City via the quaint little village called Glenside, Pennsylvania 14 years ago to study dance at Marymount Manhattan College. Cedric the accompanist for ballet barre played melodies of Gershwin, Ellington, Feilds, Loesser and others which became so inspiring that after dancing for 16 years she changed her mind and had to become a singer.
Her love of music began at a very early age by watching the uber romantic Astaire & Rogers and trippy Busby Berkley movies. Shawn instantly became transfixed by the far-out images, choreography & jazz yet always thought she'd be dancing along, not singing it. But alas...
Shawn learned on the bandstand, on the job, from some of the finest jazz musicians in the metropolis. Not long ago she formed the enchanting band LAPIS LUNA . The band has the honor of performing at literally hundreds of clubs, restaurants, fancy soirées, festivals, garden parties and the like. John Merrill plays gorgeous guitar, Pistorino is on upright bass, Brian Floody does the drummin', and Chris Byars does whatever he feels like doing. Good times are always had by all!
Shawn has been in publications from all over the world, most notably Art Forum and Smithsonian Magazine, was seen & heard on PBS Channel 13 City Arts and a whole bunch of other neat stuff. She's performed all over the East Coast and Deep South, and of course in New York City at most of the groovy restaurants, bars & clubs and every cozy little lounge, as well as The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Rainbow Room, 21 Club, Joe's Pub, Small's, Brooklyn Academy of Music...and all that whatnot. She is also vocalist with the powerhouse Chris Byars Octet and even got to do a live radio performance with the CB8 on WNYC Sound Check.
Purchase Lapis Luna's CD Take Love Easy!
Shawn feels at home when singing, but also loves to garden, cook, grill, throw gatherings, drink, eat the things she cooks and grills, and drink some more. She really wants to be a singing farmer. In Italy. Or France. Or in her hamlet of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. --CTP
