Dear Listener,
So you found me. Trust me, you are one of a small few. You hear these stories of people writing songs and building up huge fan bases on MySpace. That isn't my story. I have been here for years now, and you can see my numbers. I made this album called "Dear Listener, I Hope You Like These Songs" and offered to give it away for free to any who wanted a copy. I actually gave away every copy I had, forgetting to keep one for myself, and had to piece it back together from backups that had been scattered across several computers and CDs that seemed bound for a life as a coaster. These songs I have posted now are from my more recent CD, "The Reaper." Just about every other song is muddy and slightly embarrassing to me. But if you listen with the ear of a friend, you should be able to hear a song in there somewhere. These songs are like my children. They may be all muddy, but they will clean up well when they grow up. In fact, when I write them, the analogy holds up. I simply create them for the joy of the act, like sex. With no ideas or plans for what they will be, or what they will be about, I just “did itâ€. At first, they are all rough and hopefully cute. But as
they develop, they reveal themselves to me as complex individual entities. So I try to nurish them, and push for the best possible future for them. But I am a poor father, and I have failed to give them what I would like them to have. Of course, they have their own lives now. I am playing the part
of a father who must allow his child to go out into the world, just exactly the way they are now. I am scared for them. The world is a harsh place, and they will be criticized by people who don’t know their whole story, or love them the way I do. But part of being a good father is having faith in your child’s good judgement and strength. If I don’t have confidence in them, how can I expect them to have confidence in themselves? So no, these songs will not be hits, but if you listen real hard, you just might feel it. What is it? It is the sound of a moment when God blessed me with the privilege to bring something beautiful into this world. To me, these songs are evidence of something that is magical, and worth working hard for. It is my soul. My connection to the hand that guides me. So, I want to thank you for giving these songs a chance. I am extremely grateful that you would take the time to listen. In short, I hope you like these songs.
~D
Check out what Daniel Collins from Pigpen Studios had to say:
"I applaud your cds. Actually some of the best sounding bedroom material I have heard to date. Not just the recording itself, but the songs are showing a maturity in your writing. You have learned alot for sure. The Reaper CD is certainly well thought out. Arrangement is key to any style and your new found 'bring this in here, drop it back out' is how great songs are made. Kudos."
