Check out this sweet video by Hugo!! You might recognize some of my tasty licks on the bottom end...waith that totally came out all wrong. That's what she said!

10/23/07 I am no longer a high school teacher...I have been inspired by Rodney Dangerfield to go back to school. I am at the University of Maryland, College Park, pursuing a PhD in physics, and a Master's in keeping it real. So far, grad school has been a big challenge.
Have you ever been semi-prepared for a test, so that you have got it mostly down but you just PRAY that the teacher doesn't ask you x,y, or z, only to get the test and find out there are only three questions:
"#1: x #2: y #3: Use your results from #1 & #2 to derive z"
Well, I feel that that is what life is doing to me right now. Luckily life is open-book and open-notes...and we're allowed to work in groups.
My favorite things are sitting on my porch thinking about the world, lying in bed & thinking about the world, sitting in a coffe shop, reading a book, writing in my journal, and thinking about the world & my place in it.
I tend to fall completely in love with what I can't have...for example: sleep.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

anyone who is enlightened, creative, funny, thoughtful, or insane...anyone who has a helper monkey or knows how I could get one.

My Blog

Erratum: Maryland is not totally lame

The weirdness of quantum mechanics arises from the fact that when you make an observation, your results tell you just as much about what you're looking at as they tell you about who is looking and ho...

The conquest of Maryland

A little known historical fact is that William the Conqueror, upon landing on the shores of England in 1066, fell flat on his face. His first mate dressed it up a bit when he described William as "fal...

Lessons by the ocean

Lessons by the ocean I have learned a couple of important lessons this weekend in Boston, as per usual by listening to the ocean. I don't know what it is, but I feel a great resonance whenever I a...

start over

Music can kill you in the night. Music can gut you and leave you in the sun to dry. Not poetry, my friend.  Poetry can haunt you, confuse you, but it's gone in the morning. Not a day go...

PROSE: The Slow, Clumsy March of the Turtles

It must be so humiliating, so rare, so disorienting to grow old.  Sitting outside a cafĂ© on a not-quite-hot summer afternoon, sipping coffee and reading Karouac, watching landscapers shout at lov...

two leaves

I stepped out for a smoke yesterday, and I noticed a tree that had been stripped down to its last two leaves.  What a horribly embarrassing state for that tree to be witnessed in.  Then I no...

the origins of jazz

"There is no origin of jazz&there can be no such thing."   "David, that doesn't make any sense.  Listen to what you're saying, man&it can't be true.  Everything has a beginning.  E...
