About Me

November 8th 2008 is a concert to help Blake Levi Decarli.
Here is Baby Blake's story:
On March 30 2008 Amanda Baker and Jerry Decarli became the proud parents of a little baby boy. They named him Blake. Blake Levi Decarli went in for a routine 6th month checkup. At this checkup Blake had slight bruising on his legs and abdominal swelling. The doctor had given him a routine shot. the site of the shot bled profusely. The doctor then decided to send blake to a larger hospital for some blood tests. Blake and his parents were sent home to await the test results. Approximately 2 hours after they arrived home they got that phone call.Blake had to be transported to Albany medical center via ambulance. When they arrived to the medical center they were told he had Leukemia. The first diagnosis put his white cell count at 900,000 and his platelet count around 0.Blake was not expected to make it through the weekend. This devastated the family. How could a baby boy have such a severe problem? How can it be fair that at six months he could loose his life?Blake began receiving chemotherapy but they did not expect Blake to respond to it. The family was informed that the chemotherapy itself would most likely be fatal to baby Blake.Blake survived the chemotherapy, "he is one tough little man" His white blood cell count dropped considerably and the swelling in his abdomen went down.Prognosis was still not good blake was admitted to the PICU, once stable the doctors did a spinal tap with expectations of finding many cancer cells in the spinal fluid. to there surprise they only found one cancerous cell. This was unexpected good news.Blake's family decided to continue the chemotherapy. on august 8th blake had surgery to put in a "hicman line" to give him his medicine. he went through the surgery like a trooper. When he woke up he had a smile from ear to ear. From there the chemotherapy was continued and had positive results. by the 18th of the month the therapy was catching up with baby Blake he was sleeping more and playing less.On august 19th they found that his neck was infected from the hicman line. Blake was in much pain. He began treatment with heavy antibiotics and morphine. Blake lost two pounds in two days. The family is moving to a newer cleaner apartment for blake. New furnishings and furniture are needed to keep blake safe from infection and illness.Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a fast-growing cancer of the white blood cells. Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that the body uses to fight infections. In ALL, the bone marrow makes lots of unformed cells called blasts that normally would develop into lymphocytes. However, the blasts are abnormal. They do not develop and cannot fight infections. The number of abnormal cells (or leukemia cells) grows quickly. They crowd out the normal red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets the body needs. MyGen Profile Generator
