Donny Edwards' admiration and appreciation of Elvis Presley began at an early age. His mama recalls how he tried to dance to Elvis records even before he could walk. The youngest of three children, Donny was born in Iowa and raised just south of Houston, Texas.
By the age of 5, Donny was so passionate about Elvis that he pushed his grandmother's hand away from the radio dial as she attempted to change the station while "Hound Dog" was playing. Little did he know then that his devotion would lead him to a beloved career paying tribute to one of the greatest musical artists in history.
As Donny grew into a young man, it became obvious that he bore an uncanny resemblance to Elvis. Everywhere he went, people would react and comment. It wasn't until after earning his degree in computer science that Donny's life took a radical turn. In 2002, while on vacation in Las Vegas, a city known for its Elvis connection, Donny decided to look into another career possibility: that of an Elvis tribute artist. Shortly after, Donny entered a contest and walked onto stage for the first time as the King. He took first place, garnering 95 percent of the vote. That win was the first of many in what was to become an extraordinary career.
Less than four months later, Donny was cast as the 50's Elvis in Greg Thompson's "Elvis, Elvis, Elvis" show. Since then, he has performed all over the world, touring in Japan, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, England, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Finland, Costa Rica and many major cities throughout the United States. Donny frequently performs with Elvis' own band members, including DJ Fontana, The Sweet Inspirations and The Jordanaires. He is one of only three tribute artists to work with "Elvis Presley Enterprises" - most notably his highly regarded performance for more than 14,000 fans in Tupelo, Mississippi (Elvis' birthplace) to recreate the 50th anniversary of Elvis' own return performance of 1956. He appeared at EPE's first tribute show held in Memphis and has performed for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the NASCAR family, Marie Osmond and some of Elvis' closest personal friends. They include Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, Jimmy Velvet, movie co-stars Cynthia Pepper ("Kissin' Cousins") and Darlene Thompkins ("Blue Hawaii"), his personal photographer/assistant tour manager Ed Bonja and the late Al Dvorin, Colonel Parker's right hand man and the one who made famous the saying, "Elvis has left the building".
Not only is Donny known for his riveting live performances, but he has also appeared on numerous TV shows and ads. Some of his appearances include ABC's "The Next Best Thing", ABC's "Monday Night Football", MTV's "Viva La Bam", CBS' "The Young & the Restless" and a string of Elvis character commercials for Kingsmill in the United Kingdom.
Donny was named the top Elvis tribute artist in the world by two different organizations: the Isle of Capri Casino in Mississippi and the Potawatomi Casino in Wisconsin. Donny beat out an international cast to win the $25,000 grand prize in each contest, making him the only Elvis tribute artist to win the two largest competitions in the world with perfect scores.
Today, Donny is the industry's most sought-after Elvis tribute artist, performing in casinos, theaters/venues, festivals, fairs, weddings, cruises, conventions, meet & greets and at corporate and special events throughout the world. He is a versatile performer with the ability to reenact each era of Elvis' life and career. His dynamic performance will take you back to the 1950's and the early years of rock n' roll, getting you "All Shook Up" all over again. Then, you'll go on a ride through the 1960's, from Elvis' biggest hit movies to the famous black leather '68 Comeback Special. Finally, you'll revisit the legendary Vegas years of the 1970's, as Donny recreates the performances that made Elvis the one and only "King of Rock n' Roll".
Donny maintains a performance of remarkable authenticity. His humility, charm and southern manner, couple with his uncanny sound and appearance, will make you feel as if you are watching the King, himself.
