The Colonel

About Me

The Colonel is a performance art character created by Gainesville musician, recording artist and band leader, Charles Ray Martin. The Colonel is front man for the iconic rockabilly band dblWiDE (www.Myspace.com/dblwide). His ultra ego is Charles Ray, guitar and guru for a 60s/70s-revival band called The Righteous Kind (www.Myspace.com/TheRighteousKind). Charles Ray and the Colonel do not like each other, but they both dig Amy Lynn, the GROOVY flower child with the movie-star good looks. 1960's Silvertone Professional, 1975 Rickenbacker 481, New Gretsch 6120 Brian Setzer, 1992 Charvel Surfcaster, 1961 Gretsch 6120 Gretsch Jet Firebird

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: The Colonel
Influences: Elvis (that is Elvis from 1954 to 1958 - pre-GI Elvis; before he was ruint by the Colonel (the other Colonel, that is)), John Lennon, Johnny Horton, Dwight Yoakam (Dwight stole the vocal stylings from Johnny, I stole them from Dwight), Rev Horton Heat (you ever wonder why he’s the Rev “Horton?” A fan of Johnny H., too!), Johnny Paycheck, Hank Williams, Sr., Carl Perkins, Patsy Cline, Gene Vincent (and of course his Blue Caps), and last but not least the incomparable Bill Monroe!
Sounds Like: Think Hank Williams Sr. in the back seat of a Cadillac just after new years 1953, or that first Sun recording session where Elvis met Bill Black and Scotty Moore in 1954, or Carl Perkins and his brothers setting up in an Arkansas honky tonk with sawdust on the floor, or Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys playing in Cincinnati for the first time and really lettin’ loose, or Gene Vincent crooning to some rockabilly kitten he knows he’s gonna score with after the show, or all those late 1950’s rockabilly wild men who got the beat from Elvis, recorded those ultra-revved up county tunes, but died in obscurity.
Type of Label: Major

Yeah, my Uncle Lem married a goat, and they were happy for many years.  But in the end, she had to file for divorce.  And of course, she got custody of the kids.
