ZELOS (pr. zay-loss): Excitement of mind, ardour, fervour of spirit; ardour in embracing, pursuing, defending anything; zeal in behalf of, for a person or thing.
ZELOS is a rock band out of the suburbs of Washington, D.C. The band’s unique, melodic-rock sound draws from a lineup of highly trained, gifted musicians and is gaining recognition with each new audience.
The Groveman brothers form the core of this quartet and received their classical training from the Levine School of Music in Georgetown and the University of Maryland. After years performing as a string ensemble for Washington area social functions, the brother’s affinity for songwriting and live performance was energized by the addition of an experienced drummer.
The venues they play these days are significantly louder than the gazebo garden parties of their early years, but the sensitivity of their musical instincts remains intact in the rock context. ZELOS has been described as a mixture between Coldplay, John Mayer, and The Fray, but the guys offer this description of the music they make: "Whenever people ask what kind of music we enjoy, its a hard question to answer. Instead of trying to give an exhaustive list of our influences--to include Bach, Beethoven, and the Beatles--we like to say, ‘We’re into any music that strikes a chord of emotion common to humanity with individual originality.’ We hope some of our music achieves this for our listeners."Having self-produced their "Before the Morning" EP, the band is excited about working towards recording a debut album sometime this Fall. Meanwhile, they're enjoying each opportunity they have to bring their songs to new ears.
