GOATHEADS!!!!!
Wow, this is a lot harder to write than I anticipated. I’ve been putting it off for a couple days because it’s not the easiest thing on earth to let your beloved fans know that SKAPEGOAT is coming to an end. That’s right, after 10 years of destroying every venue we’ve played, we are calling it a day. The reason……..well, I’m leaving Denver, and moving with my lovely wife, Meg, and my adorable hito, James, to New Mexico. We are leaving to be closer to family, and to start a new life.
It has really been an amazing run. I’ve stood before 1000 people at the Ogden and had chills running throughout my body as every GOATHEAD in the place sung HIT THE KILLSWITCH! I’ve also played before three people and given those three individuals everything that I had, as the rest of the band did!!!!!!!! We’ve shared the stage with national headliners, great local acts, and the occasional jealous band that would go out of their way to sabotage us. But it only made us stronger!
There are so many people that I want to thank, I don’t even know where to start. Meg, my wife, if it wasn’t for her, I’d have never talked to Dustin and got the band back together, she was also the one that put up the online flier that nabbed Briscoe. She never missed one show (until the baby was born, and now she’s being the mother of the year, choosing to stay home to take care of our sweet baby), and knows every lyric to every song SKAPEGOAT has ever played. I want to thank my family, Mom, Dad, Mona, Ang, Joe, Baba, Joaquin, Ronda, Jezz, Shell, Ants, Jasmine, Josh, Dom, Brit, Faleen, Falez, Jim, Beth, and James. They attended many shows and often times were the loudest people in the place.
Those that have truly helped out, Kelton who has always been there in every way he can, most recently managing us. Fractile rules brother! Steve Sanchez, who made the many banners, shirts, and stickers for us. A lot of times charging us nothing for it. That’s a true brother/friend/fan! Bill Terrell who got us into many great venues in Denver and did not bullshit me ever! I really appreciate that! Lance and Marty who took a lot of time with us on our last disc. Getting the best product was all they wanted no matter how many hours they put into it. RJ Diaz, Dennis Haugh, Don Richmond, Brad and Cathy Killgore, Joe Sanchez, Andy Arellano, Donald Romero, Ed Sandoval, Wesley Garcia, Try Redemption, Jessica Hieronymus, I know I’m missing a ton of people so forgive me and your name goes here_____________!
I want to thank every member of SKAPEGOAT past and present:
Briscoe: Man, it was me and you for a long time brother! You are like a metronome, and an amazing arranger! I loved our days of jamming in the dungeon hammering out riffs, experimenting with different song structures, bullshitting about horror movies! You are a true friend bro!
TC: You are a fucking amazing musician! I seriously think you are the best guitar player in Denver! You could play with anyone, and I appreciate that you decided to jam with me! I hope that you, Diane, and the baby have a wonderful life! Maybe our kids will start SG version 2.0! ?
Brent: You are a bad ass bass player and a bad ass in general! You can keep it in the pocket, yet you can shred like no other bass player around!
Anthony: I finally got the chance to jam with you! I remember the first time we met at Barnes and Noble in Westminster. I hadn’t even got SKAPEGOAT back together and we were bullshitting about our goals and musicianship. Who knew that we’d end up in the same band! I really regret that we won’t get to write a new CD together. I think it would have been the heaviest, most amazing material ever! You are hente, and a true bro!
Dustin: We had our good times and bad! There were mostly good times! At one time we were like family. We were tight, and during our peak, no one could touch us. I’m sorry that there was drama over things that are now so trivial. It disappoints me that things weren’t different. Things will probably never be the same between us, but life is too short……
Damon: You are the epitome of cool! I loved hanging out and jamming with you! You tore it up on the bass, as well as tore a hole in every venue we played! You always left your stamp in one way or another! I miss you bro!
Geizer: The original Lead Vox! I miss you bro! You are familia in many ways!
But most of all I want to thank every single GOATHEAD!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to go to our shows! Thanks for spending your hard earned cash to buy a shirt or cd. Thank you for being real, hardcore fans! Thank you for tattooing SKAPEGOAT on your body (Mike and Pam)! Thank you for helping me carry my shit in! Thank you for the encores! Thank you for screaming, moshing, and singing with all your might!! GOD BLESS each and every one of you!!!!!!!!
The one thing that I regret is that SKAPEGOAT was never given the break that it deserved. Maybe we didn’t know the right people, and we refused to kiss anyone’s ass, but there is not a doubt in my mind that we could have shared the stage with any band in existence, past or present and if we would have had the exposure, we would have been a phenomenon. Fuck that, we were, are, and always will be a phenomenon. We have always had a magic about us, and a sound that sounds like no one else. I guess headlining Invesco is not in the cards, at least not in this lifetime. Maybe my boy will……..
With a heavy heart and tear in my eye, I write this, letting you all know that I will truly miss each and every one of you!!! I’m a musician and I’m sure that no matter where I go I will create new music and jam, but for now…………………………..I’M GOING HOME!
LOVE YOU ALL
