Sometimes theres so much beauty in the world I feel like I cant take it, like my hearts going to cave in. - Ricky Fitts/American Beauty
Current events & thoughts:
Ok. So I'm a mommy now... yikes! I still can't believe it... its taking a while to sink in. As you can tell, if you've visited my profile recently, its been sadly neglected. There just isn't enough time in the world to do all the things I used to do now that I have a little punchin' munchkin to take care of, haha. There are days when I am delirious from lack of sleep, and just being plain tired from trying to do house chores as well as care for baby Rio. But at the end of the day, its all worth it - she's a bundle of joy even during her fussiest moments :D we love her like crazy. Originally I was planning to work part time from home, but I had to scratch that plan and resign from my work recently. It just didn't seem possible to do that. But its all good - I think *hope* that I made the right decision to stay home with her during these important years.Ryski is working hard to care for us, I am so lucky to have such a sweet guy for a hubby :)
Had some interesting learning experiences here in San Diego - mostly about my relationship with Ryan, and friendships and work related stuff. I made some great new friends here in San Diego - I LOVE that some old pals from Guam reside here too, and even though I don't see them that often, I like that they are near :)
My character:
After all these years, I still find myself a really shy person - some things are really hard to change. I tend to be very quiet. But because of that, I think I am a good listener. Although most people I meet are just thinking out loud anyways. But if you do have something to share - good or bad - but atleast its honest and sincere - I am all ears. I think it's important for people to look deep within themselves for answers (even to questions they still don't know, or better yet - to ones they want to avoid). I like having my own personal time. Sometimes it feels like I don't have enough. I tend to be serious natured, but I love a good laugh. I'm practical, level-headed and I respect respectful and kind people. I have been through many changes and transformations in my life - I am grateful to everyone and everything that has helped me grow as an individual. Even my enemies, helped me to get to where I am today, and for that too, I am grateful. Life isn't easy, but we can definitely choose to be happy.
My past in a nut-shell:
I am a Graphic Designer / Yogini I'm half Japanese, I'm fluent in conversational Japanese, I can also read most Japanese comic books, but I can't read the newspaper (too much kanji) I lived on the remote island of Guam for over 20 years -- it is my home in many ways. I miss it, it is beautiful there After highschool on Guam, I graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle in 1996 I moved back to Guam to work, and eventually started my own graphic design business in Tamuning, Guam. In January 2000, I met my husband Ryan at Emerald City (dance club) He was in the US Navy at the time We pretty much stayed together since then... we were just friends for a little while, but it just felt right being together. In May 2000, we took a trip to Japan (to see our friends, and Ryan DJ'd a couple gigs), he proposed to me there (with a temporary 100 yen ($1) ring) and we were married by November of 2000 (@ Two Lover's Point on Guam) During this whole time, Ryan has been DJing as Ryski When his tour of duty in the Navy ended in July 2001, the option came up to move to Detroit, MI -- we were there for 3 years, starting from scratch... what a learning experience that was... We met some great people there, with wonderful talents... Also, living in such a dilapitated city, really forced you to work hard at your own dreams, and to look within, instead of outward / external things. I learned some great lessons there. In August 2004, Ryan got a job offer in San Diego! Needless to say, we jumped on it, and here we are now! Lovin' Life :) I enjoy graphic design, but in 2002, I fell in LOVE with yoga, and now I am a certified instructor. I taught for 8 months straight, but since moving to San Diego, I had to get a *real* job and pursue my graphics career once again (which I still love)... so teaching yoga is not in my immediate future for now Ry and I will be celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary in November 2007. My husband Ryan is awesome :) I've found my "other half", if you know what I mean... We are always there for eachother, he offers great advice, and makes me smile with his silly antics. So since we moved the the US, in 2001, we've been working on a project called BerettaMusic, which now has turned into a Electronic Music record label (techno/tech house). We have a sweet distribution deal, and our records can be found world-wide (especially europe and japan) so things are looking peachy. Life is good :)

Music:

All Kinds...& it changes a lot....I have a WIDE range of taste.
Sounds I am currently into:
Pink Floyd • Ryski • Cut Copy • ELO • deadmau5 • Cat Stevens • Josh Wink • Charley Ten • Justice.

Movies:

I am the PICKIEST when it comes to movies.... I can't STAND "bad" movies - I consider them a waste of time, and I just don't have the patience for that.... And I can be obsessively critical, and have a short attention span (which doesn't help)... I tend to like most foreign films, but in general these are what I love, and I would see anytime again:
AMERICAN BEAUTY, Pulp Fiction, MAGNOLIA, Road to Perdition, 2001:SPACE ODDESEY, Forrest Gump, SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Orlando, DREAMS, Star Wars, SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET, The Last Samurai, PAY IT FORWARD, The Shining, WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW, Crash, LETTERS FROM IWO-JIMA, ~Any Kurosawa Akira & Stanley Kubrick Films.

Television:

Hmm... been watching more shows lately since we got our new TV... Grr... (but having HD and a DVR makes it quite pleasant to watch) ;) I like most all documentary films, No Reservations (w/Anthony Bourdain), the Surreal Life, Ali G Show, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, The first 48, Pride FC, UFC, UFC Unleashed, Ultimate Fighter, Cops, Kitchen Nightmares, and NHL games (prefforably Detroit Red Wings or Pittsburgh Penguins).

Books:

I love books! (and some magazines...) To be honest, its been a while since I've read a paper version though - I've been listening to audiobooks on my iPod lately. Here's a few that interest me, or better yet, have changed my life in a positive way. I reccomend any of them!
THE PROPHET (Khalil Gibran), THOU ART THAT: Transforming Religious Metaphor, REFLECTIONS ON THE ART OF LIVING (Joseph Campbell Companion by Diane Osbon), THE SPIRIT AND PRACTICE OF MOVING INTO STILLNESS (E.Schiffman), THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED (M. Scott Peck),
Yoga Journal, Dwell, Modernism, Women's Health, Ready Made
Currently Listening/reading: Kitchen Confidentials by Anthony Bourdain

Heroes:

My Parents
Ryski for being the best companion anyone could ask for. I used to dream of guys like him until I actually met him.
Mrs. Rita Hess for inspiring me to get over my fear of jogging.
Dr. Forrest Murphy of La Jolla for restoring my vision
Isis Indriya for being the inspirational visionary most of us only dream of becoming.
Holly Rustick for showing me (a long long time ago) that I actually had self worth, and I should be proud of my own individuality.
Joy Garrido for being a super woman, always caring lovingly for all your kids, while being such a good friend (sis) to me. You will always be the sister I never had.
