WEST CHICAGO OFFICER CRITICALLY INJURED IN I-88 CRASH.Chicago Daily Herald, IL - A West Chicago police officer remained in critical condition Tuesday after he was thrown from his motorcycle and crashed through a taxi van the night before. Justin Wienrank, 24, of Downers Grove was riding behind a white American Taxi van on the eastbound Reagan Memorial Tollway in the Naperville area when the van suddenly braked amid traffic, state police said. Wienrank, who was off-duty, braked to avoid a collision and was catapulted off his bike and through the rear windows of the van, landing in its rear cargo area. The van came to a stop in the right-hand lane or right shoulder, police said. Four state troopers responded to the scene at 8:10 p.m. Wienrank was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Police said he was wearing a helmet and other protective gear. The taxi driver, who was alone in his vehicle, was unhurt. Two lanes of I-88 were closed for about an hour while the crash was being investigated.
